Hi all - i was just wondering if anyone has any insights on signalling roles that may be making it to the external applications page soon? I've been waiting for something on the south coast (Sussex) but its been slim pickings in this part of the country for a while now.

Well done on getting an offer. To get through the process and be offered a role is a challenge and the recruitment is this tough for good reason.
IST is great, it's very tough but it's equally a lot of fun especially if you're in a good group like we were.
Not everyone passes IST for numerous reasons, and out of our group of 10, two failed the Week 10 exam, me being one of them. I had to go back and join another group to start from Week 7 and then passed comfortably, so did the other chap.
Obviously if you fail terribly then they may not invite you back at all.
Thank you for this info. I am looking forward to it but understandably apprehensive about the unknown. I’ve read on here there is nothing you can really do to prepare so it’s just about getting there and putting the work in.
It's good to hear you were supported to go back and re do that part of the course which is promising, if there is a marginal fail and to know you passed comfortably on your second attempt. What do you think you did differently second time around? Do you have any top tips to get through it?

Just don't overdo the studying, you do have to wind down as the classroom and your sim groups can make it a 12hr day so definitely logoff from it all if only for the last few hours before bed and on your weekend.
hello, I have applied for a Scottish role twice now I have received a rejection email and I have applied for an alternative location to be met with the same response. Is this NR way of politely telling me not to bother or should i keep applying for suitable areas ?

We will be in touch should anything become available at an alternative location. You can also select a different location yourself in your candidate portal.
At that stage, you can decide whether you wish to proceed with applying to an alternative location. Your test scores remain valid for 6 months, so if this happens within that window, you won’t be asked to complete another test. "

I didn't get an interview a few months back they said I passed the stages but other candidates were shortlisted ahead of me. But..... just had an email today inviting me to final round interview as they need people in my area. Made up to get an interview hopefully I can do well.

South Walian here, Have been invited to an assessment centre in Port Talbot next month. Can see theres plenty of info on here but has anyone had an assessment centre recently, what questions where asked? any advice on how to prep what to research etc? Its for a grade 3 Signaller role.
Any current Signallers on here? still trying to research the role, progression etc also is the training is it based away? it was a while since I applied and I can no longer access the job advert.

Hi Mate, lots to read through on here use the search tool if your after specifics also lots of content about what the job entails on the network rail website definitely worth a look!
Progression is readily avaliable and encouraged by management you can go as high or stay as low as you want, training has been moving towards more local placements but it is still know that if they've got a space available they will ship you off anywhere in the country!

Also expecting a mail regarding (g2 signaller) assessment centre, hopefully I get an invitation, just feeling a bit nervous.
Hi all, brand new member here. So I’m currently in fibre telecoms but if I’m honest it’s on its last legs and with 32 years until retirement I want something to see me long term. 15 years then retire haha…. So there’s grade 2 signaller jobs advertised near me first time I’ve ever seen them advertised in my area. Do signallers get the use of a company van? Or does it require your own vehicle? I had a look through a few pages and never seen it asked

Own vehicle as far as I know. Various roles under NR will use company vans but signallers will just use own transport, they've got no need for a van.

Had the situational video interview Sunday, find it a bit strange you do this after being invited to a face to face interview, was a strange experience not sure how well I did I guess we will see!

Don't worry about it too much at all. I did mine before my interview around a month ago, it was never mentioned in the interview to me. I don't know how or if it is scored, it may just be a way of gauging your communication skills.

How was your interview mate? did you get the role? I'm quite surprised I passed the tests online I found them quite hard!
Its definitely exiting opportunity I guess however it is a big pay cut for me so few things to think about..

Absolutely. Can't wait to get started.
There are opportunities to move into higher graded positions pretty quickly depending on what part of the country you are in . Ovbiously nothing guranteed but it is fairly common .
Would the location you’re going to be grade 2? It might say grade 2 as that’s the salary during IST. Worth checking
One point - you don't progress or get promotion as such. if you get a grade 2 job then that's where you will stay - but you can apply for other vacancies at different grades as and when they occur. You'll have to go through the interview process etc.

How are you finding it? it sounds intense to be honest haha, what sort of questions did you get asked in your interview? Applied for Burry Port Box. Definitely an exiting opportunity!
Just passed my final observation and completed IST . It's been hard and definitely need to put in the work.

You’ll be paid g2 during IST then and when you start training your location you’ll get paid g3 (you don’t need to be passed competent before hand to claim g3)

This isn't correct, you stay grade 2 until passed out of your location.
Your post IST grade only goes up to three before passing out if your 'destination box' is 6 or higher.
