Of course they are![]()
I just spoke to some people in South Africa who pointed out that without special legislation on the HSTs, there would in fact have been no maximum speed and they could actually have been allowed to run at 250mph.
But they have an automatic gearbox, so really their drivers are not competent to drive them...![]()
Well we all know that train drivers don't have to concentrate at all, bar doing those tricky crossword puzzles.
Except when they have to turn the steering wheel to take the train down the right line at junctionsWell we all know that train drivers don't have to concentrate at all, bar doing those tricky crossword puzzles.
Well quite, I wish I had an automatic on my car, I could text while driving much easier!

You really shouldn't do that! If you don't get spattered into the back of another car the Police will almost certainly murder you!

I'm not avoiding other people's points I am stating why I don't think they are correct.I love your ability to avoid other people's points and simply repeat your own.
It may be easy for you but it is not the case for all people, it is not reasonable to say that anyone that finds this difficult should be completely banned from driving. There are some that have no issues concentrating on the road but find the gears too difficult, there are even some driving instructors that suggest an automatic if people find the gears too difficult. Ability to change gear does not make you a good or bad driver in general and is only relevant for a manual transmission. For the person that asked about the North Americans, yes the first person that responded to the question was actually Canadian. What you don't realise is that this whole concentrating on gears point is completely irrelevant. The "mechanics" of driving quickly become something a driver with even slight experience doesn't even think about. I don't think about what gear I need to be in, where the bite of the clutch is etc. They just become subconscious acts, and the concentration is purely on the road ahead.
The old Severn Bridge is a motorway, the M48.The old Severn Bridge is one.
The old Severn Bridge is a motorway, the M48.
Sorry but it is classed as a motorway. The bridge carries the motorway and a footway. The footway is behind a barrier and not part of the motorway. If it wasn't under full motorway regulations then it legally couldn't not be classed as a motorway would not have blue signs. The bridge itself has a footway and as such is not under full motorway regulations; it is a special road.
I have done and it is corect to say that not all special roads are motorways, examples of special roads that are not motorways are the A55 in North Wales, the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass and the A1 East of Edinburgh. The M48 on the old Severn Bridge however is a motorway.Zoe, read the link I gave you...
Is it just me who can feel their blood pressure rising whenever I read one of Zoe's posts now?

No, I am simply stating the fact that the M48 on bridge is technically a motorway, the bridge does also carry a footway but this is behind a barrier and not part of the motorway itself. The rest of the bridge also has special road status and is not a motorway but this doesn't stop the main carriageway from legal motorway classification. If you drive over the old Severn Bridge you are using a motorway and if you walk over it you are not.And there was me thinking you picked up and revelled in minute technicalities like walkways etc.
The question is why not have automatic transmission is the basic default for everyone and people that want and are able to drive a manual can then upgrade to a manual.
Personally, I call troll.
It's interesting that somebody will not confirm whether they have or have not passed a driving test, it makes me think of the time there was all the scandel of the MMR vaccine Tony Blair refused to tell MP's when asked if his son Leo had been given the controversal injection. When people act like this it's suggests that the answer is no and they have something to hide. I believe it is a fair question to ask given the nature of the Thread?
As I have said, I personally know someone that finds manual gearbox difficult and they hold a full licence for an automatic. Finding a manual gearbox is not the same as not having a licence.I think it's quite clear to everybody that Zoe is not a driver, or, as somebody else interestingly put it, found using a manual gearbox difficult.
