Heritage railways open November/Early December

Lots seems to have it as a closed period. Having had a look round , East Lancs seems to be the only one open beyond the first week of November. I'm planning for a trip around then , does anyone know what other ones are open? Regarding railtours Railway Touring company have a few up, which ones have I missed, preferably from London but I might do my first one that involves a hotel stay

I would expect the KWVR to be open weekends, though timetables are not loaded.

KWVR is usually open with a diesel service, last year the 101 and Pacer, on days when the Santa Specials are running. It's generally a one train service as it has to fit in with the Santa Specials.

If the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway is in scope, they are operating a "Green" timetable on each of Friday 1st November 2024 / Saturday 2nd November 2024 / Sunday 3rd November 2024 with departures from Ravenglass scheduled at 1025, 1125, 1250, 1350 and 1510 and return workings from Dalegarth (for Boot) back to Ravenglass at 1150, 1250, 1410, 1510 and 1610.

Towards the end of November 2024, they'll also be running "Santa Express" services. (Full details T.B.C.)

Unfortunately for you, many railways like to give their Ops staff a break in early Nov before starting, what is for most a very busy period, i.e. running their Santa Specials at weekends from end of Nov through to Xmas.
If you can possibly manage a earlier trip, October often has end of season 'gala' events on many railways. If you wait until start of Dec, they will all be running, but I hope you like Christmas events!

Are you restricting this request to heritage railways? As you then mention railtours. Plenty of railtours / charter trains run in December, many of them to the various Christmas markets which can be found up and down the country such as those in Bath, Lincoln and Edinburgh.

The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway are also operating their own "Green" timetable on each of Friday 1st November 2024 / Saturday 2nd November 2024 / Sunday 3rd November 2024 with departures from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool scheduled at 1030 and 1345 and return workings from Welshpool back to Llanfair Caereinion at 1145 and 1500.

They'll also be running "Santa Specials" albeit not until December (Full details T.B.C.)

They will operate steam every weekend until Santa before the Santa service which has a DMU alongside it for non Santa passengers (I know you know this it is for others benefit!)

There is no engineering shutdowns planned after the partial closure in September for their Bridge renewal.

I don't expect anyone to suddenly announce running in November/December. Santa tickets already on sale for most and any November running will be the usual railways who run at that time as for many it is not worthwhile.

The Wensleydale Railway is running something every weekend except 26-27 October and Sunday 3 November until the end of the year.

Think the Wensleydale may be running a special "Gin Train Experience" event (for over 18s) on Saturday 26th October 2024, however, this looks to be already sold out.

The key dates here are:

• British Summer time ends on 27 October
• School half term dates, this year is quite unusual here in that half term is the week after BST ends, usually it is the week before

Heritage railways still operating after 3 November are going to be exceptions.
