On many of my journeys from Walsall to assorted destinations all over England to collect eBay purchases, I always offer my Senior Railcard to Train Conductors (I usually ask them to wait a few seconds to bring it up on my 'fone as I may be listening to music!), and very often they say "It's all right Sir!" or "Don't worry about showing it!" – would I be at risk of a Penalty Fare or other sanction if a different conductor or RPI came on the train at a later stop?

. . .Has it been known for a passenger to be penalised for simply using something else on a 'fone when a Guard, Train Conductor or R.P.I. comes round, or is it reasonable to ask them to wait for a few seconds to open the Railcard on the 'fone first?

. . .I generally buy paper tickets and collect them T.O.D. from the TVM in Walsall ticket hall, by the way!

No, if you show them the railcard when they ask for it.

There is no problem with it taking a few moments to produce a railcard.
