Just been wondering if there are any versions of RTT or something similar for other countries, might try and see some trains while I'm away and hoping to try and track some.

Thanks for any help!

This might be further than you're planning to travel; but the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has its own tracker:-

...It's a bit cruder than RTT and I don't claim to understand it fully; but you can track all passenger services in real time (I think: if they are running at the time you are looking; but not if they're sheduled for later). Generally there isn't any freight, with the exception of container services on the Eastern line, between the Bangkok "Inland Container Terminal" (at Lat Krabang) and Laem Chabang port.

I think the UK probably has the best railway data out of any country. Very few countries come close to having the level of data like Real Time Trains and Open Train Times and Traksy and similar sites provide. I would say the Netherlands is probably the second best after us.

As far as i am aware Finland and Hungary and Netherlands are the only other countries that provide unit numbers online. Unless anyone knows of any others. Maybe there are others these days.

A few sort of similar sites to RTT i could find are as follows:

----

FINLAND:

Finland has this basic map showing the position of trains:

Finland also has this more detailed map which shows unit numbers:

You have to click on the train and then scroll to the bottom of the page to see the unit number.

----

HUNGARY:

Hungary has this app which shows the unit numbers of all trains:

After selecting a train you scroll to the technical information tab and it gives the unit number.

I am not sure if there is a website too. All i can find is that app. But i presume if the app shows it then there must be a website too. If anyone knows of a website too that would be great.

There is also a similar app available for buses and trolleybuses and trams in Budapest too:

It tells you the bus or trolleybus or tram fleet number or reg number when you click on the vehicle.

----

A lot of countries also have basic maps showing the position of trains:

Czech Republic:

Slovakia:

Slovenia:

But these do lack the level of details that the timetable data on RTT offers.

----

I would be particularly interested if anyone knows of any sites for Ireland and Northern Ireland and New Zealand as i have never been able to find any sites like RTT for these. Such information seems to be severely lacking in these places.

https://iemig.mav-trakcio.hu/ Is the online hungarian mapper

Central Bohemia and Prague have a similar system to Budapestgo, listing all vehicles as does South Moravia around Brno. The links are https://pidlitacka.cz/en and https://mapa.idsjmk.cz/

Thank you for the link. I knew there must be a website version for MAV somewhere. Is there a website for BKK too? Or is that app only?

I maintain a list at https://gaelan.me/train-apps. It's overdue for an update, and many of the sites listed here should probably be added - thanks!
That is an excellent page. That has so many sites that i was completely unaware of. Thank you for sharing that link and creating that webpage.

I was just looking at the last link on the bottom which shows unit numbers for New Zealand railways. You can see all of the Auckland suburban trains and Wellington suburban trains as well as buses. I was looking for something like this for a while.

Also does anyone know of a Croatian website or app for unit numbers?

I was just doing a search for old posts on this forum and stumbled across this post by @43096 which mentions that Croatia has such data available:

Does anyone know which site this is that displays Croatian unit numbers?

Bahn Expert in Germany (https://bahn.expert/) shows station line ups and also loco/power car/unit allocations for some services.
Do you know which services show the loco or unit numbers? I am just looking now and have not found any so wondering if it is only certain TOCs?

For Finland, juliadata.fi has pretty much everything you can know without actually being part of the rail companies. Strictly speaking juliadata is just an interface for visualising and searching the public data feeds from Finntraffic

VR's train tracker for their app and website is a simplified version just requesting current running passenger trains from the same data feed.

Edit: here are the public interfaces (REST/JSON/GraphQL) for road, rail and maritime traffic: https://www.digitraffic.fi/

It’s some DB operations, particularly IC and ICE but also some Regio service groups. DSB and NS Vectrons working into Germany are also covered.

You have to turn the option on (go to Einstellung in the menu, then UIC Nummer) and should get something like this when you click on a particular service:

OrarioTreni for Italy, although again it’s not quite as good as RT
Orario Treni has been bought by Trainline, the current version (on Android, I don't know about ios) loads an add for trainline that cannot be dismissed rendering the app useless.

It is still possible to sideload previous versions from APK library sites such as:

9.2.2 works

If you have a working version do not update.

Thanks for that. I have a working version, so I shall make sure not to update. ;)

balise.no is very similar to RTT for Norwegian trains, including showing freight. I only ever have trouble finding empty stock movements. You can search by location, train number, loco/unit type and number, line, operator, ect.. It will show the rolling stock allocations where it can, but sometimes struggles with freight - It can't seem to deal with imported/leased locos and El16s. The image shows tonight's Bergen - Oslo sleeper on the site.
There's also the accompanying togkart.banenor.no which overlays the same data onto a map to track them (it doesn't use GPS).

Is there one of these for Poland? I have found various sites that show live maps, and Zugfinder sort of works but it's not great

As to RTT: I thought there was also an app, but can't find it in the Android appstore. Does anyone have the direct link to it? Or do I need to search for anything else than "Realtime trains"?

Carto Graou has a very detailed approximated map (there is no real time data open from SNCF, only delay information) of the whole French network.

Zugfinder has real time info on most German trains and some other neighbouring networks

No app.

There used to be one but they didn't keep it updated so it was withdrawn.

It may still be available from app libraries but is unlikely to be much use.

Hello, I'm on holiday in France ATM and wondered if anyone knew of an equivalent of the excellent Realtime Trains website for the French rail network please?

Thought if anyone knew it would be an expert here!

This is not really an equivalent but 'carto.tchoo.net' gives you some good informations.

Maybe @stadler’s comprehensive post back in February should be promoted to ‘sticky’ at the top of this forum.

Same as the question for Spain. Very few countries have freight train stuff published so there is no equivalent to realtime trains. One exception is Finland

SNCF doesn't publish any real-time data about circulations outside of delays, carto.tchoo.net as mentionned upthread is great but with the caveat of using theoritical positions.

This site as mentioned by others is the only thing you will find close to what you are looking for:

It is a live map showing the current positions of trains on the network. If you click on a train then it will show you the timetable and any delay. It also shows the current speed. If you click the search button at the top then you can also search by station or train or line. It brings up a live departure board if you select a station.

So this is by far the closest thing to RTT that is available. France is a country lacking in publicly available railway data. Certainly better than Spain but still lacking a lot in terms of publicly available data.
