I want to travel a section of a journey from Darlington to the Metrocentre in first class (the Durham to Newcastle leg), and am breaking my journey at Durham. At the moment, I only have an off-peak single from Darlington to Durham. What's the best way of excessing this ticket to cover first class from Durham to Newcastle, or am I better off just buying a new (flexible) ticket to cover this leg? Much though I don't like them I can use a northern advance from Newcastle to the Metrocentre, currently I've got £21.30 as the cheapest including the ticket I already hold. Thanks in advance.

An over distance excess. So basically you concert Darlington to Durham ticket onto an Darlington to MetroCentre ticket.

So, a First Class Single from Darlington to MetroCentre is £27.70, and as an Off Peak Day Single is already held from Darlington to just Durham is £6.60 (in Standard), the excess for the longer journey would be £21.10. Yes?

Would it not be cheaper just to buy a First Class Day Single for the onward journey from Durham to Newcastle = £12.60 plus a Standard Off Peak Day Single from Newcastle to MetroCentre = £3.60. Total extra to pay = £16.20. (Advances possible for the final leg if additional savings are required, albeit they'd be quite small).

Yes, that's what I was looking at, I think I'll just go and do that.
