Main line blocked in Cornwall by train fault

GWR arranging taxis for passengers between Truro and Par.

But isn’t it now double track all the way between Par and Truro? How would a train fault block both lines?

Looks like maybe the westbound sleeper got stuck at St Austell as far as I can tell.

How would a train fault block both lines?

A few reasons, all speculation in this particular case:

-Potentially needing to take a line blockage on the other line to allow for safely diagnosing or fixing the fault to allow the train to be moved.

-Or further along the problem possibly evacuating passengers with a train alongside the disabled one on the opposite line.

-A derailment leaving the train blocking the other running line.

From open source data a line block has been taken just after St Austell and also on the Parkandillack Branch so it would seem possible that a Freight train carrying china clay has failed blocking the line.

Also depending on nature of fault and how long they think it will be blocked, you are not going to send trains past it towards Penzance, if you can’t send them back north later. All trains would be stuck in Cornwall’s

Edit - Update
After looking, 3Q52 NWR test train has dragging brakes and severe wheel flats. Train will at some point move to DBs St Blazey Yard once engineers have assessed the train, and it will move at walking pace.

Normal working at 0920, the train is now in St Blazey yard.

So a Network Rail train has mashed the service between London and Cornwall for a chunk of the day? That’ll be expensive

Whereas yesterday it was a Mendip stone train (Freightliner) that mashed the service. Just another day on the Western.
