2028 headcode 1139 Lichfield TrentValley to Bromsgrove failed at University around 1231, and caused total cahos and congestion on the cross city line until around 1930, 7 hours worth, However until around 2100 pm ish the Bromsgrove to Lichfield diagram it was on went totally uncovered with at least the 1300, 1600, 1900 Bromsgrove to Lichfield Trent Valleys cancelled due to no spare 730s available.
However does anyone have the number of the failed unit and what was the failure if known Thank You.

Training of managers and coaches/instructors has now started. Rest of train crew to be trained over the next 3-4 months.
Should be in service for December timetable change.

730009 appeared from Birmingham New Street solo vice 323 on 2R29 1216 Four Oaks to Redditch , due to 323211 failure earlier on this morning Tuesday 02nd July 2024, Whilst working the First service of the day 0604 Redditch to Four Oaks.

I think the Bromsgrove trains are on a three hour loop, e.g. mentioned 11:18 at Kings Norton would be at Kings Norton again at 14:18, 17:18 etc.
I’m not sure if Redditch is 2.5 hr pattern or 2 hr. Edit to add - pretty sure it is a 2.5 hour repeating pattern on the Redditch to Four Oaks service. E.g. just under 2.5 hrs for it to get back to Redditch.

I had an "interesting" conversation with a gaurd who claimed that the unions were dead against the entry into service of the new 730/0 because of DOO amongst a whole heap of other anti new train jabber. This was whilst this person was working on a 730/0.
I simply said what's the new trains like to work on,? 10 minutes later the rant ended.

Best to check the 323 thread next Monday. I’m sure someone will post the details.
Latest posts on that thread suggest no 323s are leaving West Mids next week, so (unless that changes) it might even be the same pattern as this week.

I talked with a Snow Hill driver who doesn't drive them himself but said what he'd heard from other staff who do was mostly positive. He compared them positively to the 196s he drives.

A bloke a friend knows works for WM trains. He says there is not yet an end date for the running of 323's on the Crosscity line, and the unit at Wolverton will transfer to Soho soon. Presumably 4 323 diagrams will continue this week and next week too.

Also, on just the Cross City Line, on a given day, about how many 730s are used, and about how many 323s are still used?
Finally, what particular services (in general) are now always (or usually) 730-operated?

1723, 1753, 1823, 1853 (all Bromsgrove) and 1643, 1715 (Redditch) departures south from New Street are reliably class 730s. Bromsgrove is a 3hr diagram cycle, Redditch is 2.5hrs; you can work out all the other services from that. 6 diagrams, all should be pairs so 12 units.
The other 5 cross city diagrams (2 Bromsgrove, 3 Redditch) are (should be) class 323s. Typically two of these (1 of each route) will be a pair, the other 3 will be single (so 7 units total)

is it still just one 730 on the Walsall-Wolverhampton route?and which diagram will It work this Saturday?. I think part time train spotter website is wrong on the Walsall-Wolverhampton diagram as I went to do it few Saturdays ago and it wasn’t on the diagram given.

The diagram numbers for the 730s seem to keep chopping and changing. No doubt this leads to more work and checking for the human that is publishing Part Time Spotter !. Also as the day goes by units are at risk of coming off diagram due to disruption, failures, wrong-crew or whatever else can upset things !. So the later in the day I rely on PTS the more chance there is that Murphy's law has caused things to have unpredictably changed since publication. Still better than being totally in the dark.
