Hi I left one recently but may have been missed from your latest update, Preston TPE don’t sign via Earlestown (only via St Helens Central) thanks!

I had thought they were learning that way but I realise I've got confused with them going to Manchester via the other side of Chat Moss! My bad, I'll get it fixed

All drivers at Edinburgh sign the Leven branch. Not all the Edinburgh guards do but don’t know which links though.

Leven drivers sign 158, 170 & 385 traction and their routes are:
Leven - Edinburgh (via Kirkcaldy and via Dunfermline)
Edinburgh - Dunblane
Edinburgh - Queen St (via Falkirk High)

Cheers. Good to see they've been proactive at keeping Leven productive by giving them other work away from Fife.

I'll also update TfW Shrewsbury to reflect that link dependant they're currently learning Birmingham New Street - Tyseley depot. As a rule I don't normally include individual traction depots or stabling locations except when they're located away from a route that depot already signs, but I think this applies here.

My pleasure - and aye, it's been brought in purely for the Ribblehead work. My understanding is that eventually the whole depot will sign it, meaning no link division, but I cannot state that with certainty.

So where are the drivers who drive the direct services from London to Rotterdam based?

All of the Drivers and Guards for the Brussels to Amsterdam section are Amsterdam based. It has never been signed by other depots. Amsterdam is the only depot that signs this section. So the train is worked by London/Lille/Brussels/Paris based Drivers and Guards on the London to Brussels section and then there is a crew change and it is worked by Amsterdam based Drivers and Guards on the Brussels to Amsterdam section. So there is always a crew change similar to the old Marseille and Bourg St Maurice trains where SNCF employed Drivers and Guards would take over from Lille onwards. Also the Drivers and Guards who work the Brussels to Amsterdam section are employed by NS so they are not Eurostar employees. But they do still wear Eurostar uniforms.

Newcastle had 185s taken off of them about 12 months ago as far as I’m concerned. No longer sign them as they don’t sign through to Liverpool anymore so no need to.

At an internal Northern corporate event yesterday I was able to ask the route and traction knowledge for the upcoming Ashington depot.

I apologise for starting something I can't finish, but I think one route missing for SWR drivers is Wimbledon to Clapham via East Putney. I have no doubt that Wimbledon depot sign the route for ECS moves, and maybe other suburban depots for the same reason, but there are one or two passenger services that use the route, including the 04.54 Basingstoke to Waterloo. Somewhere in the back of my mind is that this service changes driver at Woking, so maybe Woking signs it too. A theoretically useful diversion in the event of a calamity on the route via Earlsfield, but actually has limited value because its intensive use is precluded by it being single track between East Putney and Point Pleasant Junction, messy junction operations at Wimbledon and Wandsworth Town and the need to mingle with District line trains on the Wimbledon branch. Maybe others with insider knowledge might be able to advise which depots actually sign it.

Waterloo, Wimbledon Park and Basingstoke for definite. Other than that not sure, it seems to have been taken off quite a lot of cards.

Still many more occasions where that particular bit of route knowledge is needed and not held than occasions where it’s held and not needed put it that way.
