The IETs are a capable of displaying a different destination on the two halves of a ten car set; Swansea/Carmarthen is an example. It’s particularly complex in that case as the set not only splits but also reverses en route at Swansea, so the rear portion leaving London is going further than the front.
I didn’t word it great but I’ll try and explain what I’m meaning.

That example does still involve a set terminating short. Albeit the sets are the other way round in this case. It’s not an example like 1V64 might be from December where both sets split at Gloucester and carry onto Cardiff/Plymouth. I’m specifically referring to where the two sets finish at two different stations, both stations which the other set did not call at and vice versa, like 1V64 might be from December. As far as I know this is impossible on IET’s without a new headcode being imputed from where the train splits. I’m pretty confident that they’re incapable of displaying say Plymouth/Paignton if such a service existed.

Not sure what causes it, but I’d imagine it’s a software restriction.

Ah sorry yes, I see what you mean!

I suspect you’re right regarding the IETs in that instance; as you say, one half would need to start a ‘new’ journey at the splitting point I would think. The train would need a new headcode at the splitting point anyway of course, as one train can’t run as two different headcodes over the common section of route. But as you say, I don’t think the PIS can display that coherently for the entire journey.

Taking Southern as an example of where mid-journey splitting is commonplace, even on internal systems one portion makes the full journey and then at the splitting point another ‘new’ service appears, which is the other half off to its respective destination. As an example, there is an ex Victoria which sets off as a 12 car and then at Horsham splits to become front 4 to Portsmouth, rear 8 to Bognor Regis. The entire train leaves Vic as the Portsmouth service with that headcode, and then at Horsham the rear 8 take on a new headcode and run as a Horsham - Bognor service. In practice the train is advertised as Portsmouth & Bognor throughout, with passengers advised accordingly where they need to be located. The PIS on an Elecrostar it seems can cope with this!

Incredibly poor for a new PIS not to be able to handle this. They're different services in the rail data, but they always have been and it's a standard situation.

We *may be wrong; perhaps it’s just never been utilised?!
