Recently moved to the three bridges area, but still commute into London 3 days a week for work. Mainly getting off at Farringdon.

Started commuting from Three Bridges but the peak anytime return of £21.15 (with a 26-30 rc). But noticed I could just go from Gatwick/Horley (with my parent dropping me off) for £16.95 a day.

I think this is because those stations are in the TfL “fare zone”. I was speaking to someone at the ticket office and they recommended using the Keygo instead of buying tickets manually.

My question is, is the Keygo card worth it, will it be any cheaper from either station, any benefits to this other than just tapping in as opposed to scanning my trainline codes ?

I saw they were introducing weekly capping at the same value of a weekly season ticket, but not sure that would make anything cheaper as I have a railcard and only commute 3 times a week

Thanks !

Also if anyone has any hacks for any cheaper fares over those trips e.g split fares or tapping at Croydon etc. Legal means that is

You get to travel by whatever routes you'd like on Thameslink, Southern, Gatwick Express or Great Northern between A and B without any issues, plus weekly season capping if appropriate to you.

This could potentially benefit you by double backing between Gatwick and Horley, for example, which I think was blocked by a recent easement.

You also get the Oyster or normal ticket pricing, whichever is cheapest, with keyGo.

Particularly if you travel from Gatwick, KeyGo will benefit you because it applies contactless fares (with a railcard discount at off peak times) where they are better than 'paper' fares. It also applies the best of a return or two single fares, and copes well with break of journey. On the other hand, it won't split fares, so the tap out/in at East Croydon wouldn't work.

You'll also be able to use KeyGo on Metrobus buses between Horley and Three Bridges/Crawley. I don't know how much that is (or if its cheaper than the £2 flat bus fare), but may be an added flexibility for you

Edit: here is the page, there's plenty of buses between Horley and Crawley. If you've used a train the same day, the cap for buses is £4.10
