Thanks for the correction, yes that makes sense!

To confirm, from Reggio IC564 was a unit (412046) and IC566 hauled by D445-1112, so the 0830 from Taranto should be hauled tomorrow as booked.

Thanks, is it Friday that’s the last scheduled day of loco-hauled services?

I don’t think so (though not sure when is?) - the 0830 ex Taranto is showing with 2nd class only, after that date (which suggests still being hauled?)

The new Trenitalia Summer timetable starts next weekend - a week later than in the UK - and according to my (fairly) reliable sources, whom I can't quote, the general idea is that the D445s should be bowing-out....except for a handful retained for breakdown train work. However, Italy being Italy, I have my doubts as to whether there will be enough new units available with enough crews and maintenance staff trained on them, in time. Possibly the axe may fall on the D445s in December....who knows?

Rather the UK is a week earlier than the rest of Europe. Winter timetable ends on the 2nd Saturday of June.

So some good news, my train is loco-hauled, with one of the Intercity-liveried D445’s which is the livery they look best in :) Thanks for the information everyone. I also got a quick picture of one of the new units, which are also Intercity branded but in a different livery, so hopefully they have an intercity interior layout to match…

Update; I’ve now seen the interior of one of the new units while passing it at Crotone, and it’s almost entirely bays of 4 arranged around tables as far as I could tell, so looks suitable for IC journeys.

That's a relief! Hope you had a good night's sleep on the way down.

It wasn’t the best, the train wasn’t driven very sympathetically on this occasion and it calls at stations quite frequently, although later on I did get a few hours of decent sleep. The morning espresso was a godsend :D

I went out to film two of the ‘last’ D445 services crossing today, and I also caught one of the new units and two D445’s departing Locri earlier in the week.

I have noticed that the morning Northbound IC 564 continues beyond Taranto, to Brindisi and Lecce now and there is an opposing service. So that’s an interesting development.
