Anyone any experience of using Barclaycard Cashback Rewards? They are currently offering me 8% off a purchase through LNER with no minimum spend or requirement for it to be a purchase for a travel on LNER.

Do I just book as normal or have to click a link through the site?

I once tried getting Barclays Cashback for a National Express spend but it didn't track. When I queried this they said it was because I'd gone through Top Cash Back.

It seems to work for any journey (not just LNER ones) booked through the LNER app: I think it will also work if you use the website but I haven't tried that recently.

It may also be useful to know that cashback is paid on buying eVouchers - so my current routine is to buy eVouchers to cover a month's worth of commuting (so getting the cashback) and buy the actual tickets as required using the eVouchers. You can also stack Airtime on top to get an extra (for me) 5%.

Thanks. I'll do that next... Just go straight to the LNER site directly and pay using my Barclaycard.

Deutsche Bahn has a Fan Bahncard which gives a 25% discount on their tickets
It costs €19.90 in 2nd class, €39.90 in 1st class and runs for 3 months, when it renews automatically for 1 year. If Germany wins the UEFA EURO 2024 football championship, the 12 month extension will be free.

What is the Fan BahnCard 25 and at what price can I get it during the promotional period?

The Fan BahnCard 25 is a regular trial BahnCard 25 and therefore a Deutsche Bahn discount card. It is valid for 3 months and will then automatically renew for one year.
It entitles the holder to a BahnCard discount of 25% on the super saver, saver and flexible fares within Germany in the corresponding travel class.
During the promotional period, you can buy the Fan BahnCard 25 at the regular price of 19.90 euros in 2nd class and 39.90 euros in 1st class. In addition, the card will be extended for 1 year free of charge if the German national soccer team wins the tournament, regardless of any prior cancellation.

Anyone with a Halifax account. LNER have 10% cashback on next purchase (one time use only) but it works on any journey and not just LNER. I recently got £19 back off the purchase of two super off peak Saltash to Folkestone tickets that was booked via LNER app with Halifax debit card. The offers just need activating in the Halifax app and use your debit card online with them.
TPE have a similar 5% cashback on the Halifax app too, it doesn't specify that it's one time use, but not used it so can't comment on that.

I have 5% on LNER on AMEX, forget the max cashback but can be used unlimited times. This however seems to be personalised and my instinct is that if you use the LNER booking site or app a lot, you may not get the offer. I used to commute Northallerton to York off peak, would use it about every day and eventually stopped receiving offers, when everybody else seemed to get them. There's 7% for TPE too, but this is only for one purchase. Interestingly, both say online and in store so may well work at the ticket office.

Just got an email off Uber offering me £5 off any train journey booked on their app. Used it straight away and it applied at checkout - may be worth checking your email to see if they’ve sent you the offer too.

If you have a one time offer like this, consider buying yourself LNER e-vouchers. You can spend up to £500. The vouchers last a year, so you should of course only spend what you will use.

MerseyRail are offering £2 returns between Liverpool and stations on the Headbolt Lane line for weekends throughout the summer.

These tickets do not appear to be Railcard discountable.

Hopefully they haven't decided the "Hare Fare" promotion was too popular and have watered it down to a 20% off sale which you can't use with railcards so is a tad pointless for frequent travellers whom have railcards.

I've been able to use it with a Railcard. £5.25 from Norwich to London Liverpool St otherwise it's £6.60 without.

Monzo offering 5% cashback on LNER (that's reduced from previous cashback offers), and 8% on Virgin Trains Ticketing.

One time use only, for what it's worth.

Virgin Trains Ticketing are also regularly doing cashback (I've got 8% single-use) through Monzo, and LNER (5% multi-use).

Oops. Missed that.

It comes and goes for different people at different times. Good prompt for me to check my offers -- I've only got the VTT one at 8% but this time it's multi-use!

I've had exactly the same happen to me on Barclaycard Cashback. LNER reduced from 8% to 5%.

If wonder if it gives you the reduced amount once you've used the offer as you might be in the habit of using LNER then but up the amount of cashback if you don't use the offer for a while?

Virgin Trains ticketing has gone from 5% to 8% but is for first purchase as a new customer only and says a download of the app is required.

I have still not received a £5 Uber Train Tickets despite others receiving it.

On a separate note, can I ask which TOC on Top Cashback pays the highest cashback? I tend not to travel on any of the TOCs listed on Top Cashback so would be looking at the cashback rate for tickets for another companies services.

I haven't looked recently but my impression is that the 5% from LNER your Barclaycard is currently offering will be better than anything on Topcashback. Also, don't forget the possibility of applying Airtime as well if you use LNER: this gives (me at least - maybe your offer will vary) a further 5% to use against your mobile phone bill - so overall you can get 10% buying through LNER.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately my mobile is with Smarty so I can't take part in Airtime. Unless it can be used against anything else or there is a workaround.

My Dad is with Smarty and it lets him redeem his Airtime balance to a bank account instead

Yes indeed, but when I try to make a booking using my phone via the link in the email that I've had about it from EMR, it says page.journeySearchForm.promo code entered, but when you enter your journey details it says the promotion code entered is not valid.

Hopefully this is just a glitch in the system, or maybe an interface problem between my phone and their system. I'll try it on my laptop when I get home this afternoon so watch this space!

UPDATE: When I tried earlier I looked up St Pancras to Alfreton, but I've just tried St Pancras to Nottingham and that worked. I presume the offer is only available for direct journeys, so London to Alfreton isn't included in the promotion because Alfreton no longer has any direct trains to or from London.

I'm not sure if it will let me do this. I just tried signing upto Airtime rewards and it's asking I select my network. Smarty is not listed there.

Maybe that's because he signed up to Airtime when he was with a different network, before moving to Smarty, so he has some kind of grandfather rights
