There was an earlier identical thread but it's closed.
My friend from Australia reports from a trip this week:
TfW are promoting restaurant cars on 15 trains a day between Cardiff and Holyhead/Manchester.
So (I) made a long tourney from London to York via Cardiff and Manchester to experience lunch on the 1052 Cardiff to Manchester.
Surprisingly what TfW advertised and delivered were somewhat at variance. There was a chef, but only Newport to Shrewsbury; they only had a light bites menu not the full 1st Class; and they had no cheese - a feature on many of the light bite menu items.
Whilst the carriage is very comfortable, and good to have complimentary tea/coffee in real crockery, it’s consistently disappointing that none of the rail operators can reliably deliver what they advertise, and people just accept it as normal.
