Looking to pop down to Bristol on Saturday.

-I would love HST haulage there and back, although will happily do a First HST to Cheltenham if needs be.
-Want to see a XC HST arrive and leave without having to get on it.
- Would like to be able to use XCs new Advance fares until 23:59 feature.

Ta guys :)

Surely you don't need to ask us for advice on this? You just go online and buy the advance for your journey at 23:59 the day before you travel (though good luck actually finding any decent priced tickets at a reasonable hour of travel that close to the departure time).

Tip: Book the trains you think will be HST on the XC site, and when a reservation has been obtained, then click the option to choose your seat. You can then identify if it is a HST or Voyager (note that a 5 car Voyager with unreserved coach appears identical to a 4 car on this screen for obvious reasons). If it's a Voyager, simply remove the item from your basket and try again.

If you are there long enough that may be possible... but you are aware they're MTUs, right? ;) If you want to observe a HST departure (which is now a rather boring non-event, sadly) there is the option of seeing yours depart Bristol?

Book between 18:00 and 23:59 tomorrow then. Though there is no advantage to waiting until that time, and the longer you wait...

For walk-on travel between Birmingham and Bristol, 'split' tickets at Cheltenham (but I am sure you already knew that, and I realise it wasn't in the question, but in case anyone reading this is wondering, it's best to point that out!)

Yes, I was thinking that too!

It's always worth asking :)

Yes, I was thinking that too!

I am currently thinking 13:09 to 14:41
Return 19:27 to 20:53.

I was born far too early :( Only witnessed a Valenta once in recent years, and I didn't realise what it was!

I just wanted plenty of time to Photo one, as i've got lots of FGW HSTs.

Ta lads.

EDIT:

Anyone want to join or meet there? :)

I disagree, Valentas were my favourite train from the age of 2, so you've had a two-digit number of years to enjoy them ;) The last Valentas only went last year, it wasn't that long ago! But this is the fares section so not the place, so I won't go on...!

Firstly I'd recommend an alternative location if possible. With some exceptions, station shots tend to be boring (in my opinion). And really, the request to meet up should go in Forum Meets;)

I liked anything in the Bird colours (swallow livery) or the purple train! (321s)

The earliest I can remember is telling the difference between a 220/221 by the colour of their name plaques!

Well I want to go to Bristol, so thought i'd offer anybody the chance!
