Help required please :- can someone point me to a publication which details off-peak hours, in this case CLJ.
I plan to go from Brighton to Yeovil but wish to spend an hour or so at Clapham Junction.

Timings on NRE are Depart BTN 14:19 arrive CLJ 15:02 , depart CLJ 15:27 Arr YVJ 17:38.
What I want to do is catch the 16:27 CLJ-YVJ but feel I may be perilously close to peak hours.

Any help much appreciated
Thanks
Ron

There's no such thing as 'peak hours', only times which are prohibited for certain tickets - these will depend on the ticket in question.

Assuming you have an Off-Peak Return (priced - rather expensively IMO - at £53.30 without discount), the restriction code is UT which restricts you to trains leaving Clapham Junction at or after 0910.

So you're fine with that plan :) (Also, no break of journey restrictions apply, if that's useful).

The only restrictions from Clapham Jn to Yeovil Jn apply to the First Off Peak Day and Super Off Peak Day tickets. They are not valid from Clapham Jn between 1606 and 1910, inclusive.

The OP has a ticket from Brighton not Clapham. The Off Peak Return (SVR) and the Off Peak Day Return (CDR) from Brighton to Yeovil Junction, routed CLAPHM J NOT LDN, both have restriction code UT.

Splitting at Clapham appears to be more expensive. I also can't find a super off peak from Clapham to Yeovil - only from Yeovil to Clapham. Even with a super off peak the split is more expensive.

Pen Mill, the fare depends on which Yeovil station you want. Despite your name, LexyBoy and wibble have assumed you want to go to Yeovil Junction (via Templecombe). For that journey the Standard off-peak fares are:
Brighton - Yeovil Jn route Clapham Jn not London
Off-Peak Return (SVR) £53.30
Off-Peak Day Return (CDR) £44.90
Off-Peak Day Single (CDS) £44.80
In each case, Restriction UT applies. The words relevant to your journey are:
Available any train at weekends and public holidays, Monday-Friday:
  • Towards London on trains arriving into London Terminals at 1000 or later;
  • From London on departing Clapham Jn at 0910 or later.
I don't agree with wibble. I see no afternoon restriction for this journey. But you can click on the link above and work it out for yourself.

But perhaps you want to go to Yeovil Pen Mill (via Warminster). For that journey the only Standard off-peak fare is:
Brighton - Yeovil Pen Mill route Salisbury
Off-Peak Return (SVR) £52.00

In this case, Restriction Q8 applies. The words relevant to your journey are:
Available any train at weekends and public holidays, Monday-Friday valid on any train timed to depart at or later than the times shown below:

[long list]
It seems to me the relevant restriction is Salisbury at 0850, so again there is no afternoon restriction for this journey.

Probable times are YVJ 08:29 arrive BTN 11:54 change CLJ and ECR
Return BTN-YVJ 14:19 change CLJ

NRE gives me an Off-Peak return at £46.20 , I have a Senior Railcard which brings it down to £30.50.

At no time does it suggest I go to Waterloo

I can't get this fare myself - closest is the £44.90 Off-Peak Day Return.

In any case, as John @ Home says, all the Off-Peak fares to Yeovil Junction carry restriction code UT, which means there's no restriction on evening travel from CLJ.

Waterloo doesn't come into it - the restriction code will apply to many different tickets, some of which will allow travel via Waterloo.

That's the key bit for me , thank you.

Incidentally ,I just rekeyed the route (YVJ-BTN return) into Nationalrail.co.uk and got 46.20 off peak again .
Are you using a different search ?

I was looking in the reverse direction, which seems to be priced differently. It is indeed 46.20 as you say (though note that an Off Peak Day ticket is different to an Off Peak ticket, and often carries different restrictions, though not in this case).

Yes, I too read post #1 to mean Pen Mill's journey would start at Brighton. Quite frequently an Off-Peak Day return from A to B is a different price from an Off-Peak Day return from B to A.

He didn't actually say what type of ticket he had or the day of the week he planned to travel but did ask about restrictions from Clapham...

True - but the restrictions from Clapham depend on the type of ticket held...
