Travelling into Leeds last night past Holbeck depot from Sheffield, I noticed that the chord towards the Airedale lines is electrified. However, it must be very rare for any electric trains to actually use it since the line South of there towards Wakefield Kirkgate isn’t electrified. Can anyone please pinpoint when this stretch of wires was last used by electric rolling stock? And has it ever been used with any great frequency?

I am aware that West Coast Railways railtours use that line occasionally but I am specifically looking for Electric Locomotive or EMU useage of that line?

When Leeds station was remodelled / rebuilt from 1999 - 2002 a temporary platform called Leeds Whitehall was built on the curve to allow services to be diverted out of the main station when closed at night for engineering works, it opened in Autumn 1999. In early 2001 the curve was electrified so Airedale trains could terminate, it also helped getting the electric units to Neville Hill when the north side of the station was shut for engineering works. How much use was made of I am not sure but the remodelling finished in summer 2002 and Wikipedia states the last train was 23rd Feb 2002, I doubt it's seen an electric train since.

Thanks for the informative response! It helps narrow things down significantly :)

I'm sure stuff's been shunted onto there during disruption.
