Manchester Airport Sunday services

It was only when I went online to book a ticket that I realised that the overnight West Yorkshire-Manchester Airport services that operate Monday-Saturday do not run on Sunday mornings, even though there are early morning flights from the airport. Does this reflect wider issues about Sunday working, historical concern over keeping lines available for engineering work or some other reason? On the surface it seems a slightly surprising omission when other airport services such as to Stansted and to Gatwick do operate overnight on Sunday mornings.

Historically (as late as 2019-20) they were replacement buses - I hadn't realised that has changed.

Technically Stansted doesn't have overnight services. The last one from London is 23:25 and the last departure from Stansted is 00:30.

It has services to meet early morning flights, the first departing at 0440 and arriving Stansted at 0605.

It’s showing as arriving 05:39. On Mondays (may run some other days) an 03:40 off Liverpool St arrives 04:30.

Doubt I would risk catching an early morning train to Manchester Airport if I had a morning flight to catch!

All services in north Wales and north of England far too unreliable sadly…

I’d still always get the train but would book an overnight hotel at the airport regardless even if it was the most reliable of routes,

Indeed, that’s what I would do as well - but shouldn’t need to!

Oh I don’t know. Never understand why anyone would want to get up at silly o’clock when on holiday. I do that enough for work <(

Airport hotels are ridiculously expensive

Personally, even if I was driving, I'd go the night before for an early flight. It's no good missing it!

I've always just got the last bus/train to the airport and found a bench. Maybe as I get older I'll be less inclined to do so, but I've not had any problems yet.

There's a website that gives advice on the best/worst airports for it: https://www.sleepinginairports.net/

We're lucky to be just a GBP20-30 taxi ride away in Stockport. Sometimes we can get the 199 and stagger home from there.

Striking the number of rail enthusiasts here who regard rail as too unreliable to use for connecting with a flight...

It should be mentioned that prior to FirstGroup destroying the service in around 2003 (Blackpool, FNW) and 2009 (York, FTPE), there certainly were services from York & Blackpool North every two / three hours through the night to Manchester airport, 7 days a week, with extensive diversionary mileage on both routes to avoid possessions.

The First train leaves Piccadilly at 0342 then 0442. First tram leaves Piccadilly at 0550 but takes ages to reach Man Airport .Would you rely on this service to get you there !

I used to use the train from Wilmslow for a flight, but I gave up after 2018. I always used a taxi home anyway.
