It was made during WWI from the front and rear halves of two wrecked ships welded together - HMS Zulu and HMS Nubian

Grabbing at straws here, but was that the Alice who's father was a friend of Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carol) and was the inspiration for Through the Looking Glass after he had taken the family on an outing and made up some stories for the children? (I was in Oxford at the weekend so heard the tale).
