1B32 Tour de Birmingham 20/02/24

Hello all,

On Tuesday 20th February I took 1B32 0947 Birmingham New Street to London Euston. Needless to say I was a bit surprised when my train departed Birmingham... heading northbound. The train in the end travelled via Soho and the Aston to Stechford line before rejoining the normal route in reverse formation at Stechford, meaning that the train arrived into Euston 20 minutes late.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happened (The reason wasn't communicated by the guard)? It's especially odd as looking at realtime trains suggests that no other trains that day took that route or encountered any delays in that area that day.

According to OnTimeTrains:

This train has been delayed by a fault on this train

So likely a fault with one cab or similar I would guess, meaning it could only be driven from one cab, and therefore they reversed it to allow this.

Having another look on Realtime trains suggests that it didn't work another passenger service that day and likely made its way back to Wembley depot, although I can't find such a working on Realtime trains.
