Hi,

Unfortunately someone has been hit by a train between Durham and Newcastle causing services to be expected to be delayed for the next 2 hours.

I had a look on the TOCs websites, but I can’t determine rail replacement bus departure times. Does anyone have these to share please as I need to get to Newcastle today but wondering if I’ll need to arrange my own alternative transport. National Rail doesn’t have them yet.

A person has been hit by a train between Durham and Newcastle, to allow the emergency services to carry out their work safely all lines are blocked. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until 14:00.

Additionally, does anyone know which train was involved please? I see 1V54 (08:05 Edinburgh to Plymouth) (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:G25200/2024-02-14/detailed) has been at a stand between the two stations for over an hour. This seems to be southbound, so wondering if the northbound line may reopen sooner.

My thoughts are with the driver and all those involved.

Thank you

Delayed
I've been caught up in this, and have abandoned my journey, there doesn't appear to be a replacement bus, and no trains are passing through, apparently with disruption to remain until 2 o'clock. At the moment the options to Newcastle are really only risking the train service or going via the coast.

Thanks for letting me know - surprised they aren’t in operation yet! It is a shame transpennine aren’t operating those shuttles like they did between Durham and Newcastle during the landslip last year. A Durham to Darlington shuttle would then allow people to connect to Northern via the Durham coast line.

Regular buses from Newcastle to Durham, although they take best part of an hour. Presumably at £2 a go?

Both lines appear to have reopened just before 1300.
Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Durham and Newcastle, all lines have reopened. As a service recovers, trains may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 45 minutes.

Disruption is expected until 15:00.
Seems like it, naturally disruption is expected for another 90 or so minutes currently.
