Day return to London with a Travelcard - outwards journey has a compulsory reservation (like an Advance single), return is any Virgin train. What info do you want exactly?

Virgin seem to want to keep it a secret - there's no mention of it on their website at all! And their journey planner is rubbish. It shows up on National Rail, £34.60, but when attempting to buy it it takes you to Virgin's site which fails to find the fare.

WebTIS sites like LondonMidland, Chiltern, EC etc seem to work correctly - I'd suggest buying through one of these.

Errr, Smethwick!
The key seems to be finding the "London Travelcard All Zones" destination on the London Midland site. That did the trick for me.

From BHM, more expensive than Chiltern/London Midland super-offpeaks I more often use but does give the Oyster a rest and worth it if you need the flexibility of Virgin's 20-minute frequency and faster journey.

This is why I think the online booking engines should accept NLCs. "0035" is a lot easier to remember than all the different possible things that you might type to get a Travelcard.

WebTIS do. What you need to do when using this system is bypassing the homepage of the TOC. If you click "search" without entering any details, it will take you to the actual booking system interface, where you can enter locations by NLC's.

Hmm. Nice to know. Would be nicer if it accepted Boundary Zones (you can type them in, but it doesn't find any fares, presumably because it's trying to find a train from Boundary Zone X, which won't exist).
