Hi,

I'm looking to see if I can get an open return for the above journey to less than the £18.60 straight through ticket price each. It would be 2 people going out this Saturday 7th May, returning Sunday 8th May. I've tried splitting at Barnsley, Denby Dale, Penistone, Manchester, Sheffield, etc to no avail. If it was a day return it would be easily done but as its over two days it necessitates the journey costing more!

Any last suggestions before I just tell them to take the car instead? :(

Thanks

No, if coming back a different day there is no 'Hope' (sorry!) of bringing this fare down, in my view.

You can save 60p by splitting at Dore and Totley.

An Anytime return Brighouse to Dore and Totley is £11.00 (route 'not Leeds')
Dore and Totley to Hope is £3.50 singles each way, total £18.

Thanks all, sonic2009 New Mills Central-Hope is £5 single each way so won't be cheaper, but thanks anyway.

Also thank you for the witty puns :p:lol:

You could do Brighouse - Sheffield with Nat Express (coach) for £8.20 and Sheffield - Hope for £5.80 but not sure if the saving justifies it.

No, it would be £9.00 SHF-HOP because there is no SVR/SOR (the £5.80 fare is a CDR), so 2 x SDS would be required @ £4.50 each. Ouch! So that idea has to go out the 'Dore' ;)

How about Brighouse-New Mills Central?

New Mills Central-Hope is £5 single each way so won't be cheaper

I think the point sonic2009 was making is that a £14.70 Brighouse - New Mills Central Off-Peak Return (SVR) is valid via Hope (Derbyshire) and is valid for break of either or both legs of the journey, so it should suit your needs.

£14.70 Brighouse - New Mills Central Route Any Permitted Off-Peak Return (SVR) carries Restriction 2M. This includes:
Available as listed below Mondays to Fridays - (By any train on other days).
Outward travel
All trains are barred which are due to arrive at Manchester Stations (Deansgate, Piccadilly, Oxford Road or Victoria) before 0930.
Return travel
By any train.
Break of Journey
(Out) YES
(Return) YES

The calculation of Permitted Routes is:
Routeing Points (RPs) for Brighouse are Halifax Group and Huddersfield Group.
RPs for New Mills Central are Chinley, Guide Bridge and Manchester Group.
Fares check: Comparing Anytime Day Single (SDS) fares:
Brighouse - New Mills Central £14.00
Huddersfield - New Mills Central £14.00 - therefore Huddersfield is an appropriate RP for this journey.
Brighouse - Chinley £13.00 - therefore Chinley is an appropriate RP for this journey.
Permitted Routes Huddersfield Group - Chinley are on maps GM, MS or MS+SY. Map combination MS+SY allows:
MS: New Mills Central - Hope (Derbyshire) - Chinley - Sheffield
SY: Sheffield - Meadowhall - Barnsley - Huddersfield Group - Brighouse.
