The invaluable Wiki informs us that Combe Martin's main street is reputedly the longest village street in England; but that this is in fact a misapprehension -- the country's actual longest village street is that of Stewkley, Buckinghamshire (a little way north-west of Leighton Buzzard).

The literary Bronte sisters - Charlotte, Emily and Anne - were brought-up in Haworth, where their father was the rector. However all three were born in nearby Thornton, West Yorkshire.

In times past, Church Fenton was a centre for the growing, boiling and bottling of chicory. Nowadays, the concern which claims to be Britain's only firm commercially growing chicory: is based at Spalding, Lincolnshire.

Market Harborough has a church dedicated to St. Dionysius -- a new one on ignorant me, who was at first put in mind of Dionysus aka Bacchus, Greek god of wine-making / fertility / insanity / the theatre / other good stuff. It would seem that few churches in Britain are dedicated to Saint D. -- but another one that is: is at Ayton, Scottish Borders -- not many miles over the border, from Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Grantshouse is the point where the north-to-south A6112 road joins the A1. Some five miles south of Grantshouse on the A6112, is Preston, Scottish Borders ("not to be confused with...").

The novelist and dramatist R.F. Delderfield (1922 -- 72) lived for some of his childhood in Addiscombe; one of his novel series is set in that basic area of South London. He spent much of later parts of his life; and died; in Sidmouth, Devon.

Bideford in Devon, is the alternative -- and preferred -- port for the regular boat service to Lundy Island (apologies, as I've tendered before, if I seem a bit obsessed with that place !). Bideford is the norm for this purpose; but vagaries of tides in the Taw / Torridge estuary mean that at times, a Bideford sailing won't work: in which case Ilfracombe is used as the "second-string" departure point and/or destination (in those circumstances, coach connections laid on at no extra charge).

<off topic> do you have a source for that? It would make a useful correction to Wikipedia. </off topic>

Lancaster is another place where witch trials were held.

Bideford lies on the A386. A similarly sized town which lies on the A683 also with a ferry service is Heysham, Lancashire.

(Posts #33,474 and #33,475: since @Xenophon PCDGS's comes first, I take it that Lancaster; rather than @Fermiboson's Heysham; is the one from which to follow on; but will await confirmation.)

I think most users of Wikipedia are agreed, that it is by no means invariably accurate or consistent; and sometimes contains decidedly improbable stuff. In referring to Wiki for purposes of this game, I tend freely to use it as contributing to the game's fun, and don't worry overmuch about how right or otherwise, its info may be. I got the stuff about longest village streets, actually from the Wiki entry on Combe Martin. Quoting verbatim: "It is believed that the street is the longest village street in England, but this is actually a myth. It was recorded measured at around a mile and a half long. The actual longest street is in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire. The myth has several possible origins..." -- a couple thereof, accordingly given -- lookable-up in the Wiki entry, if one is interested. Wiki's entry re Stewkley, contains nothing about that settlement's village street ! As said, I don't take Wiki material with an ultra-high degree of seriousness.

Yes it looks like Lancaster is this most recent move, unless someone can quickly think of a link between Lancaster and Heysham (perhaps the Stagecoach 1 bus route...!)

That works, and both lie on the A683, and you must go through Lancaster to go anywhere else from Heysham on the rail network? Xenophon and I decided to just leave it to whoever is doing the next association to choose which one to go from. Or since you're the quizmaster, I presume you can also decide.

Reference the preceding posts: taking Heysham to be potentially "on the table" -- there is at Heysham, an archaeological site which features a pre-Roman labyrinth carving -- one of only three such in the British Isles. One of the other two is at Tintagel, Cornwall.
