Thameslink - Borough Market Viaduct

Significant progress over the weekend, the new Thameslink Borough High St Bridge has been slid and lowered into place, having been built up on site positioned above an earlier completed section of the viaduct.

I took a trip up to Charing Cross a couple of weeks ago and was quite taken aback by how much work had already been done on the new viaduct. I was also interested to see that it deviates slightly from the original route.

Bridge looks very stylish as well !

Looks nice, but what's the deal with those custom made signs and banners which Network Rail have plastered all along the Thameslink route where they are doing work?

Sure it's probably only a tiny fraction of the overall project cost, but it's hardly like they need to advertise their services in the same way, say, a new shop would want to. I thought we were supposed to be saving money? Or has that not get arrived at Network Rail?

Sure it's probably only a tiny fraction of the overall project cost, but it's hardly like they need to advertise their services in the same way, say, a new shop would want to. I thought we were supposed to be saving money? Or has that not get arrived at Network Rail?

At least that way when there is weekend disruption or when a station looks like a building site commuters understand the reasons behind it. The project has received a lot less publicity than Cross Link but in my view is just as important.

The TOCs probably like the Network Rail banners so that they don't get so much grief for the Monday morning over runs...

I do agree 'Cross Link' hasn't had much publicity - but then again Crossrail probably has...

I've not seen any railway viaducts on pillars in this country before. Looks like something out of NYC !
