Ah. Trains are timetabled to terminate at HSK at the start and end of service to give the four western branches a good service without overloading the core. During the day, it'll be the decision of the line controller, often if there are problems east of Earl's Court. Here's the District line WTT.

Another service that seems very odd that i cant wrap my head around is the following EMR connect service on a saturday morning - 1Y99 Kettering to Corby at 0555

Only runs on a Saturday morning and forms the 0610 Corby to St Pancras. On Monday to Fridays the 0610 from Corby is formed from 5Y04 an ECS from Kettering sidings.

So 1Y99 means that Corby recieves an earlier first arrival on a Saturday at 0603 vs 0654 on a Monday to Friday, given that the equivalent service on weekdays runs ECS.

Given that 1Y99 connects out of nothing at Kettering its very odd that it runs in service on a Saturday morning, but not on weekdays when you would perhaps at least expect some early morning commuters. So its rather baffling as to why this service runs, specifically only on a Saturday morning.

CrossCountry train managers for Edinburgh to Aberdeen are resourced from Edinburgh. I suspect the lack of intermediate calls may be down to a keenness to get it away right time from Aberdeen on the working to Penzance, as knock-on delays earlier in the journey could cause serious delays later in the trip despite some extended dwells at Edinburgh, Birmingham New Street, and Bristol Temple Meads. Unless anyone else can indicate otherwise, it seems more like a (minor) ORCATS raid on the busy Dundee-Aberdeen flow rather than anything particularly useful.

Thanks for that information. It would not surprise me if the dumbing down of the morning northbound service is to make it easier to withdraw the Aberdeen service if and when they want to do so - there is always a lot of talk of XC focusing on core routes.

Not seen it before and never seen a south Wales service from Llandudno before! Last time I got on it (2 weeks ago) it was only going to Crewe.

It looks like this is the service that is usually the 2030 off Manchester to Cardiff, which seems to be altered to start from Llandudno at the moment!
