Today i was at Rugeley Town waiting for thee 1031 to Rugeley Trent Valley, i was heading to work while wearing my Uniform (Work at ASDA) so the London Midland Class 170, 170508 Arrived at 1028, most trips to work i have my camera on me, so i take a picture, and as the train stops the driver pokes his head out the window and starts talking to me, i have no idea what he was saying becuase of the noise of the train, as the train stopped, he asked me if i was getting on this train, i said yes and he said, i ask you a question on the other end of the line (Rugeley Trent Valley)

So i boarded the train, sat down and began to wonder that he was going to ask me why i was taking photo of the train, so i began to think i was in trouble but didn't worry about it, the Train arrives at Rugeley Trent Valley, got off the train and waited until the driver came out of his cab, i thought here we go...

The Questions he asks me is...Do ASDA Sells Power Jet Spays!!! it wasn't a question i wasn't expecting! so we just had a freindly coverstation about it and walks off happy

I'm posting this story up to share because it was a funny event!

I once had a bus driver ask me about the opening times of the store that I worked at when I got on his bus - because he was having a break soon and wanted to buy some new clothes! :P

Indeed there were repeated reminders in Buses magazines that photo-taking by enthusiasts is not forbidden by law given the amount of hassle many people seemed to have got from a minority of bus drivers. I guess that the same applies to railways, as long as you use commons sense when carrying out such activity such as not using flash direct at the driver, etc.

There were even notices up at one of Stagecoach's North East depots (I think) which used to have a poster up reminding drivers not to be abusive towards enthusiasts taking pictures, otherwise they would face disciplinary actions.

No we don't...lmao!

Why would you be in trouble? There is no law against taking a photo of a train.

well everyone knows that there are sometimes there are some jobsworth waiting to have a go at you and it has happened once during a trip to Lancaster last year, someone had a go at my brother, honestly it was a bizzarre thing that happened ad it was the first thing thaat came into my mind

Personally I would never have a go at anyone taking photos while I am driving. In fact I once got out the cab at Stafford and asked a spotter who had just taken a pic if he could email it to me ! I am not too happy about people using a flash but you can usually see them lining up the shot so you can turn away.
With regards taking photos of buses. I was at Kirkcaldy and was taking a few shots of buses leaving the bus station. An Olympian pulled out so I took a shot of it from the other side of the road as it left the station. The driver stopped, opened the doors and started shouting at me to put the f,ing camera away. This was in front of a bus load of passengers. When I told him I was perfectly in my rights to take pictures he actually got out the bus and started walking towards me shouting. I think he was expecting me to back away so when I started walking towards him he stopped and went back in his cab and drove off. Needless to say an email with the picture of said driver was sent to stagecoach !

A driver I knew at Old Oak used to delight in recalling his party piece when waiting for the Right Away at Reading; he would lean out of the cab and call out to waiting passengers - "which way to London?"

I got on the bus a couple of months ago, coming home from work, and the driver said I could get on free if I told him where to go

He had no idea what so ever.

So tempting to send him where I wanted to go...

That happened to a bus I was on where roadworks had closed the road (it was only closed in the evening so all the other services went as normal) and the driver didn't know where to go

I did a similar thing when new drivers were given my schoolbus route (my house is badly placed for buses travelling in one direction, right in the middle between two far apart (for a town) stops...

so I always used to say "Oh yes you see that grey lamp post? There used to be a stop there but someone crashed into it, you can still stop there though" -- worked every time, and it helped that the stop was one of the last few :D

Was it a rail-replacement bus?

Normal service bus... The number 9 in Leeds operated by Centrebus

Stagecoach drivers around my way are generally alright, but there's a fair few that are far from "polite".. shouting rudely at other vehicles is a regular event for some of them.

Sounds familiar, a lot of the drivers around here are fairly clearly from somewhere Eastern European (no I don't have a problem with that before anyone starts - although knowing basic english is always helpful!) and are being taught the routes, sadly the Centrebus way of teaching routes is a little different to that of the main companies with drivers being told as they go - resulting in a lot of very heavy breaking!

In the cab with the paper
I got on the bus a couple of months ago, coming home from work, and the driver said I could get on free if I told him where to go

He had no idea what so ever.

When I was at Uni in Sunderland some friends of mine told me about a trip they'd just had from Manchester on a National Express coach.

It seems that the regular driver was unavailable at short notice so rather than cancel the service they pinched another driver from somewhere else who'd never driven the route before. They only realised there was a problem when he got as far as Stockport and then turned to his passengers and announced, "So, where do I go next?". In the end the passengers had to give directions to reach each stop along the way.

My favourite one is from Frankie Boyle's 'My sh*t life so far'

He talks of how he took the National Express from Victoria to Glasgow, the driver got lost in the fog on the M74 and ended up off the motorway. It was soon clear that he was lost, so the passengers just took the mick, 'make sure you don't miss out Hampden on your tour of Glasgow!'

The driver lost it and told them to 'shut the f*** up' or they'd all be walking, to which one guy stood up and proved the point why Scotland had never produced any great diplomats: " 'Calm doon' he said with his hands in the air, in a non confrontational manner...'ya pr*ck' "

They got a bus from Easterhouse.
