I was due to travel on this morning’s 0900 XC service southbound from Leeds. But the call at Doncaster was cancelled “due to staff training”.

What could that actually mean? A lack of staff training and a guard or driver who doesn’t sign the Doncaster route?

Was today's 0900 XC service actually routed via Doncaster, or instead did it go via Goldthorpe / Burton-on-Dearne, thus omitting the Doncaster call?

The train ran direct from South Kirkby Jn to Swinton.
So, might the "staff training" have been in connection with route retention for the driver as regards the alternative route?

If so, would the driver been accompanied in the cab for the relevant section?

It actually went the direct way. It was originally booked to go via Doncaster. XC journey check said the stop was removed due to staff training.

Despite the fact there was an LNER service 5-6 minutes behind it, I missed my connection for Cleethorpes and so was an hour late.

Although I don't really know I suspect the issue was more likely to be the booked driver didn't sign the route via Doncaster.

9.32pm on Christmas Eve and I’ve just had confirmation that my delay repay will be paid.

10/10 for the speed of processing.
0/10 for having their delay repay team working at that time on Christmas Eve night.

Probably lack of route knowledge of the bit between South Kirkby Jct and Marshgate Jct.
