oh and welcome onboard shedman!
I hope I get this set on my trains for the nice seating, however the lack of power sockets would be annoying if this is not rectified. Though it's not a problem if I can find one of the ideal seats near the luggage racks unreserved ;)
I wonder if it will have a new engine fitted after all as aren't EMT required to replace all the engines in the HSTs by the end of the franchise anyway?
I don't understand the question - they've had "new" engines for ages!

They're required to install VP185s in all their power cars, which I believe still leaves 43089 which blew its Valenta last year.
089 has been VP185 for ages now!
Hmm, the lack of power points and wifi won't go down very well on the longer routes
EMT sets have wifi, but there's no way I am paying any of their fees, the lack of wifi wouldn't bother me, I just use mobile internet instead. OK, it's not quite as reliable but it can be faster and the prices they charge are horrendous. I looked at the wifi on the EMT set when I got it on the 2130 back after the March RailUK London meal and, while I can't remember what the price was, but I thought 'get lost' when I found out!

I think there are 5 or so sat around some times, that is a large surplus ;)
Really? What times are those? Night time? ;)

Yeah, the 2 p/c's with the set are staying with EC so to re-engine then to MTU would make more sense.

They would still have to be different MTU engines, as the EC XC & GW MTU is no longer in production/something to do with emissions.

No, they are all R41s. That is why GC were in a rush to fit them

Yes indeed welcome shedman :) As to the IC70 seating comment above, the current seating on the loaned EMT sets is why I prefer to use them over both FCC and the regular East Coasts sets although the lack of powerpoints is something I would certainly appreciate.

think it would be a bad move to have a set running around without plugs and if it ever makes it far enough north would definately anoy me. However I do fall into the catigry of IC70 lovers so to get it would be a real treat!

Of course you could always travel first class on a 317 if you like IC70 ;) (Altho it's not quite the same on a 317.. <D )

This set has been the entire length of the route now. I'm sure it's also made a trip to Inverness!

It's certainly been to Aberdeen, pity though I've yet to travel on the set any further then Peterborough to Stevenage.
