Anyone else who passed stage 1 at Preston the other week who got invite to Crewe for stage 2 also got an email saying same date and time but in Watford? Bit far to drive to or get a train to for an 8.45am registration...
I'd recommend staying over. The last thing you want is to leave the house at 3-4 AM for a 4 hr drive through rush hour traffic on a day when you need to be tip top!
I was in a similar situation last year where I had an invite to stage 1 assessments in Crewe and stage 2 in Warford, both booked in the morning. Trust me, you definitely want to stay overnight, because there is accommodation within a 15-20 minute walk, and you want to be in tip top condition as stated above. Might be more money than you'd like to spend, but think of it as an investment into your future. It might not see a return, but it's still a choice I'd recommend personally.

There's a travel lodge, only a 3 minute drive away. A pub, Chinese and a Greggs opposite for something to eat the night before or breakfast the next morning.

Hi everyone,
I applied in February, did all online tests by May and now I’m about to take the Stage 1 assessments this month.
I’ve been practicing the GB test online & on paper but I never manage to complete a whole page.
Does anyone know if the GB papers are exactly the same as the one’s online? Hopefully not

Thanks buddy, for me it was 16 days, but that's just wherever I am in the process. Useful to gain a rough idea of timescales but I wouldn't use anyone else's progress as too firm a guide, its a complicated process and I should imagine priorities change on a daily basis from avantis perspective especially if you consider their other responsibilities. Just hold tight and your turn will come around, the longer you wait the better prepared you will be so it ought to be an advantage from that perspective.
Good luck though pal, I'm guessing you're awaiting a DMI invite?

Getting anywhere near completing an entire page is very good going if you've no errors or omissions. The format will be similar to whatever practice materials you're using, also several sections on the one page if I remember correctly. Don't over think it, I settled for an approach of making no mistakes and got to about line 10/11 I think which was a decent balance of speed without sacrificing accuracy for me.

Just wondered if anyone knows how fast the training pay goes up realistically? At least to the 50k range.
Long term pay is obviously great but short term i may have to figure out how to manage the bills as I believe training pay is around 39k

Got my DMI date today, you must be a good omen! Wishing you a swift result on your DMI and hopefully we will both land up in the talent pool.
Just a quick one for those of us in the pool (from the 2023 intake) but the email stated offers will be made for us come near the end of the year for courses starting in 2024. It’s December now. Has anyone heard anything yet? Or do you think offers for us will be made in January?

Hi SES16. I passed in September 23. Awaiting a course date. I’m also aware dates for courses after March are awaiting approval so we won’t be booked on for anything earlier I think. I hope this helps.

That’s very helpful, just wish we had some kinda updates from them. I'm assuming March/April from what I was last told. My company wants me to book annual leave for next year so I’m trying to delay that till I know what’s the Avanti plan.

Well that's it official now, my suspicions were correct and I have come up short at the very last. I'm still awaiting feedback to see where I went wrong for certain or of I was even close.
So I'm currently very disappointed in myself as given the questions that I had I know I ought to have done much better.

I totally understand. I’m hoping we may hear some information the start of the new year. Judging from the early 2023 intake (the people who passed in Jan/Feb) I believe they are on courses for Jan/Feb 2024…. This makes me believe we will probably be offered courses middle/ end of 2024. It’s all speculation though.

Keep your head up mate. You've passed the psychometrics and CBI which means ideally you're a DMI away from landing the job with a TOC once passing the sift. That's an achievement alone, you've got 3 to 5 years depending on the toc to focus on passing that DMI.
It won’t seem like it now but when you get this far it’s simply a matter of time before everything falls swiftly into place. You are one small step away from the job. Get the feedback and make the adjustments.

If anyone asked me right at the start of this process how far I thought I would get I wouldn't have believed it would have been the last interview. I really ought to give myself a little more credit, and have another go on the next intake better prepared than this time.

Hi all, just been informed I passed stage two and now await a date for a DMI. Anyone able to share some information, not asking for questions, about the DMI. Is it a structured interview again? I wouldn’t expect anyone to share what they was asked but if anyone would like to share anything that would be really appreciated

Sure, take a good look at the guidance provided by the OPC. They do explain the tests you will undertake and will help you prepare. For the CBI, I would suggest to get some examples down that match the qualities expected of a train driver, reference such qualities within your answers
No DMI is not the same as CBI. There are some questions about company, rail industry in general and some scenario based "What would you do if". I would suggest to look Avanti website I think it should be enough to prepere. Good luck!

Look at their Website and know everything you can about the company. Use Wiki to learn all about the depot you'll be working from and read carefully the email you get from the OPC with things to prepare. I wrote it all on some cards and practiced for a couple of weeks until I memorised most of it. Still couldn't answer a couple but did enough to get through. Don't listen to the posts that say it's like a general job interview, it's about showing your commitment and effort into learning details. If you have time visit your depot.
