Mod note: split from the First Aberdeen thread

Does anyone know what the purple signifies on the bus stop signs where the name is? I can’t seem to find a trend between them, as i keep seeing them in such random places.

I know this isn’t strictly First Aberdeen related, but this seems like the best place to ask.

I'll have a stab at it: they  may be markers to denote the location of fare stages. Grampian Transport used to use a bit of white tape wrapped around the pole to assist drivers with the location of fare stages.

The purple ones along King Street signify which stops the express Stagecoach services stop at.

Is this for the benefit of passengers or drivers?
I suspect the latter as it doesn't seem to have been publicised anywhere?
To speed up journeys and discourage city passengers using the services on journeys wholly within Aberdeen.
