While it was poorly thought through, I do understand them withdrawing the offer of free multi-operator tickets.

While they were willing to take a hit as an apology for being unable to run their own services, they would still have had to pay a share of multi-operator tickets to the other operators from £0 income from these tickets.
Indeed.

Why didn't that occur to the people in charge when they brought it in?

Probably the same reason the people in charge got their workforce onto the gate for the length of time they did.

Because they've no idea what they're doing..... comes to something when your company mouthpiece needs to be locked in a cupboard to stop him briefing the press!

And deal with complaints from all the other operators who’d be losing their own ticket sale revenue too. Of course people would have gone one stop on a GNE bus just to avoid paying at the metro station. I know I would have.

I can’t imagine any of the problems with the plan even entered into management’s head. Not the best advert for Edge Hill University’s business course.
