I'm sure there's been threads on this in the past, but for an up-to-date one, what are the shortest distances between stations which passengers can take and longest journeys without changing possible on each TOC? I am counting infrequent services (e.g. Carlisle – Nottingham) but not ones which only exist due to engineering works. So far I've got (all distances in km; I'll add in miles as well):

I think you may have gotten the "longest" and "shortest" columns the wrong way around in your table!

I would hazard a guess that the shortest on South Western would be Sunbury to Kempton Park, although happy to be corrected if not so.

Anything shorter distance on Southern than between Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour (= 31 chains or ~0.62 km)?

The interesting short ones are the long-distance operators; as most of the others will have distances below 1.5km and probably below 1km.
Without serious research:
Hull trains is Cottingham to Hull (?or Beverley)
XC probably Dawlish to Teignmouth or Torquay to Paignton

6.3 km for Hull to Cottingham beats Beverley by ~400 m.

3.4 km for Torquay to Paignton vs 4.1 km for Dawlish to Teignmouth.

SE: Bromley North to Sundridge Park. Out of one platform and straight into the next.

Pedantry corner: on instances where one, other or both stations are a terminus, are you counting distances to/from the buffer stops or distances that the train actually travels?

I think the shortest on Greater Anglia (LE) is Southend Victoria-Prittlewell which is anything from 50 chains to 55 chains depending on source/how measured.

Similarly on Great Northern (GN) I think the shortest is Moorgate-Old Street which is anything from 40 chains to 45 chains depending on source/how measured.

I think Kings Cross-Kings Lynn should be 160 km it is about 52 chains/1km further on the down road for trains going via the Hitchin flyover (and even further if diverted via Hertford North).

Measuring buffer stop to buffer stop (which for Great Northern comes to 159.5 – for consistency's sake that means I should still round up to 160 though).

So 1 km for Prittlewell – Southend Victoria and 0.8 km for Moorgate – Old Street.

OP, I’ve noticed that some of the abbreviations in your table stand for defunct TOCs.

AW - Arriva Trains Wales is now Transport for Wales (TfW)
GR - This is now LNER
LE - Greater Anglia should be GA
LM - London Midland is now West Midlands Trains (WMT)
VT - Virgin Trains is now Avanti West Coast (AWC)

Would you be okay to update the table with these changes, and possibly also use the TOC’s full names to avoid confusion.

Shortest DLR is likely Canary Wharf to West India Quay, little more than a train length (but on a bridge across water). It is presumably the shortest distance overall.

These are still the abbreviations for those TOCs in many industry data sources.

In any case, using the full names is likely wise.

The reporting marks haven't changed, but I'll use the full names or more obvious abbreviations instead.

Less than 0.2 km.

DLR: surely Canary Wharf to West India Quay for shortest?

EMR: Manchester Oxford Road to Piccadilly?

West Midlands Metro: Corporation Street to Bull Street?

ScotRail: Haymarket to Edinburgh?

Metrolink: Piccadilly Gardens to Market Street?

Merseyrail: journey between two of the four Liverpool stations?

London Overground: Wapping to Shadwell?

WMR: Stourbridge branch?

GWR: somewhere on the Severn Beach line?

Also Southern, must be somewhere on the Metro routes (e.g. Sutton lines) where its shorter than the Newhaven ones?

Would Snow Hill to Moor Street also be the shortest on the West Midlands Trains (LM) network too?
0.7 km.

Woburn Sands – Aspley Guise 1.5 km.
Bedford – Bedford St. Johns 1.1 km.
How Wood – Park Street 1 km.
Lea Hall – Stechford 1.8 km.
Smethwick Rolfe Street – Smethwick Galton Bridge 1.1 km.
Dudley Port – Tipton 1.3 km.

So a fair few below 2 km but none any shorter unless there's any on the Snow Hill or Cross-City lines.

Merseyrail: journey between two of the four Liverpool stations?
Lime Street – Central 820 m; Central – James Street 780 m; James Street – Moorfields 500 m; Moorfields – Lime Street 930 m.
London Overground: Wapping to Shadwell?
Rotherhithe – Wapping is ~530 m vs ~740 m for Wapping – Shadwell.
WMR: Stourbridge branch?
1.1 km so longer than Moor Street – Snow Hill.

Some shortest distances, from the Routeing Guide distance data:

Overground: Rotherhithe to Canada Water, 0.21 mi - shortest anywhere
Northern: Atherton to Hag Fold, 0.22 mi
Merseyrail: Liverpool James St to Moorfields, 0.29 mi
Southeastern: Woolwich Arsenal to Woolwich Dockyard, 0.33 mi
ScotRail: Alexandra Parade to Duke Street, 0.34

A quick look at Glasgow has Central to Argyle Street at 28 chains. Anything shorter?

I'm disappointed that Scotrail isn't Culrain-Invershin which is a massive 35 chains.
The gap between platforms at Summerston and Maryhill is 510 m, and Summerston to Gilshochill is 524 m between platforms. I'm fairly certain that's 30+ m longer, although I don't know if there's any other potential contenders.

Actually, take the above with a grain of salt: there's some rather suspect numbers in there, like .6 mi from Ty Glas to Birchgrove.
