I didn't say from a ride quality perspective, just from observing them in general. The TfW 170s are much comfier, especially declassified First Class, but they're abundant on the Lydney line. Not sue how you can prefer a 150 to the superior ride quality and comfort of a 170, a 158 yes, a good alternative.
That’s been over a few times already on this thread. It just couldn’t happen or TFW would have done so.The 17:30 Manchester to Swansea (or Cardiff) was today a two-carriage 197. The 175s should have remained until the December timetable change if not longer.
009 should have gone too but they couldn't get it started
Taken from the EMR Class 170 updates thread just in case anyone missed it. More departures of stock soon.170206 arriving from TFW on 19/11 next one 6th December and final one 21st jan
Remaining 170 ex southern staying for another year with southern with a possibility it will not move to EMR
Is that another one to Gresty Lane?Definitely 009

175102 just passed me at Port Talbot Parkway on the 5m42 empty stock working to Crewe. Passed through about 4 minutes early.

Would TFW really just keep 1 in the fleet? That must be an operational nightmare. Unless they're having maintenance in between and not being used in service.Taken from the EMR Class 170 updates thread just in case anyone missed it. More departures of stock soon.
I was wondering that as well. Maybe just for a bit of insurance post timetable change (at least for a few weeks)?Would TFW really just keep 1 in the fleet? That must be an operational nightmare. Unless they're having maintenance in between and not being used in service.
To be fair for a short term period it shouldn't give too much trouble. There's plenty of other units that can rescue it if it fails, there's plenty of people who sign it so there isn't any training needs, and there's probably enough spare parts in Canton to keep it going a little longer.Would TFW really just keep 1 in the fleet? They're not extinct yet, not a single unit has been scrapped.Am I right in thinking that the 175s are the first post-privatisation class to go extinct? (The 460s were rebuilt as 458s, although the rebuilt cars will soon be gone too)
Mark 5 hauled stock next?
AIUI the class 460 cars were mostly formed up into class 458 units, with serious rebuilds of cab ends and couplers. The cars that were not converted to 458s I believe were scrapped - about 6 luggage vans ?Am I right in thinking that the 175s are the first post-privatisation class to go extinct? Four of the driving luggage cars were scrapped. The other four were converted to standard vehicles and are in sets 458532/536. The total of 64 Class 460 vehicles was used to augment the 458/0s to 5-car (30 vehicles), and create 6 x 5-car "new" sets (30 vehicles, incl 12 driving cars), leaving four driving cars for scrap.AIUI the class 460 cars were mostly formed up into class 458 units, with serious rebuilds of cab ends and couplers. What about class 379? They finished early last year.Extinct on National Rail services.
Yes, 460 is gone for good, even if all but four vehicles were still in service in 458s until recently (they are readily identifiable by the strip glazing) and will be the last to run as 458/5s as they are not to be converted.
Class 332 Heathrow Express were the first, all scrapped now
I'd forgotten about Class 379, although I've always thought of them as just another Electrostar subclass. (Do they actually differ from 375s, 377s and 387s any more than individual subclasses of those classses do from each other?)What about class 379? They finished early last year.
I think its been reported elsewhere on one of the threads that the reason the 379's got parked up was the leasing cost being too expensiveI'd forgotten about Class 379, although I've always thought of them as just another Electrostar subclass. All TfW and about 17/20 of GWR's 150s have 2+2 seating with armrests and tables.Tables on a 150! Wow.
