I'm looking at travelling on the Caledonian sleeper 1st class in July. The cheapest fare is £202. Can anyone suggest where to look for a cheaper deal? Last year my mate got it for half that price via the Scotrail sight.

From where to where and on what date? Do you have a Railcard?

First class Sleeper 1st Single fares are quota controlled and available for £130.30 or £177.30 from Glasgow to London, for example. 1625 Railcard discounts are not available, but HMF/Senior/Disabled Railcard discounts are.

You can buy these through the Scotrail website or through Telesales. If ordering through Telesales, make sure you request your complimentary LU Zones 1-2 ticket as well, as last time I booked through them I did not receive it.

When I did it I bought a normal off peak fare and paid for solo suppliment for sole use of the berth, hardly anyone else was In the lounge car so I sat in there.

1st class really isn't worth it in my opinion

I've got a related question, and thought it is probably easiest to ask it here rather than start a new thread :)

Can you book a Bargain Berth then also book a solo supplement on top? :)

But if someone turns up on the train wanting to pay for a sleeper supplement do you not lose sole occupancy?

On 2 bargain berths? If I had 2 bargain berths I'd submit both BBs to the berth attendant to check them in. I doubt the berth attendant would go asking about the whereabouts of the 2nd person and may assume they are turning up later or in the lounge car.

If I was travelling in a group of 2 or more people I'd want as many of them getting seats in the lounge car as possible as decent seats there can go fast.

I hae paid £130 for mine next wednesday. I was told i nededed foirst class to use the showers and lounge at Euston so stumped up the extra, plus if i want a berth on my own i needed to pay for 1st class. Still seems good alue becuase i get an extra day away.
