Please can anyone tell me the location of DBSO 12802 which should be on set no. 2, but which has the 'spare' no. 12814 attached.

No, the CAF assembly plant, which is actually Llanwern.

Visible in one of the sidings to the east of the buildings on the aerial view on Google maps.

It might be visible from a passing train - provided nothing is parked on one of the tracks in between it and the running lines...?

I've certainly seen assembled units parked there when passing on the main line.

I think, looking at the Google Map view, that while the western end of the assembly plant is visible from the railway lines, and there is a public right of way immediately north of the railway, there appears to be tree growth affecting the view at the eastern end. No chance of seeing from the south of the plant as no nearby public access.

It became the spare DT in place of 12814.

I think, looking at the Google Map view, that while the western end of the assembly plant is visible from the railway lines, and there is a public right of way immediately north of the railway, there appears to be tree growth affecting the view at the eastern end. No chance of seeing from the south of the plant as no nearby public access.

It's at the western end; it's the one I've circled below. Zooming in on Google Maps sows the shadow of it; the cab end is closest to the building.

The arrow is the line of sight from the main line with trees in full leaf; the view should be easier after the leaves finally drop this year.

Is it? It looked more likely to be the carriage in the third siding on the East end, which is clearly a driving coach in TPE colours. Either way, it is just the position at the time the aerial view was taken, and some shunting could have taken place since then.

Yes - it looks like it's now been moved around!!

Hire a light aircraft out of Rhoose and fly within sight of the factory to cop it...? Hoping they haven't moved it inside by then, of course!!
