Whilst travelling from Evesham to Worcester yesterday (28 October), thia announcement was heard (may not be the exact words):

"We are now approaching Worcestershire Parkway. Please note that the next three northbound services are all cancelled. Passengers for Birmingham are advised to continue to Worcester and change there; also the next southbound service to Cardiff is cancelled, passengers may wish to change at Worcester."

Congratulations to the conductor for providing helpful information so that passengers were not stranded for ages.

Incidentally, RTT shows that 3 northbound trains were indeed cancelled, but over a period of 4 hours.

These announcements need to become a requirement for all train operators to do. Though they would still be mad they atleast will not have to be outside in the cold for 4 hours.

I use this line three times a week and conductors as a matter of course announce the connections or those not available at Worcestershire Parkway including on Monday 16th October the 17.27 to Edinburgh which stopped at WOP. On alighting I checked with the station staff and this service was displayed on the PIS as well. Maybe a portent for the future by XC.

Good service, although already the standard in much of Europe.

Deutsche Bahn, for example, has several onboard screens on a lot of its trains, showing which connections will still be made, and those missed/cancelled, updated for each station called at.

It is really a basic reason for which PA is provided. Robot station calls and "see it say it sorted" are not particularly helpful.

I just wonder is via Worcester a valid route if your ticket itinerary states change at Worcestershire Parkway ?

If the railway person on your train says to do that, maybe that counts as permission? But even if you have to go back to WOP hours later to pick up your routing, maybe Worcester is a nicer place to spend hours than WOP? In which case it seems reasonable to go there (not that "reasonable" is the clinching factor with the railways these days of course...).

When the twice-hourly Eastbourne/Ore trains are approaching Lewes, the OBS often mentions the platforms for Seaford trains and Brighton trains and sometimes gives the timing of those trains.

Yes, good on him!

I'm always wary about changing at Parkway for Birmingham in case the XC train is cancelled/delayed and it'd be quicker to go via Foregate St .... (thankfully I know how to check these things but obviously many passengers will not)

I do find, by and large, the GWR staff on the Cotswodl line are pretty good

Quite. Also, crackly and unintelligible repeats of the far clearer recorded announcements! Anyway, I think we've been down this road before...

And that connection won’t be held (we lost time all the way from East Croydon). We were so late that even I could understand why the connection hadn’t been held even though I was inconvenienced.

I think it's because part of the Seaford branch is single tracked so therefore the delays would not just go away quickly.

OTPA will be along eventually via GSMR. All centrally located at each TOC, automated and standardised, taking the announcements away from the conductor and driver.
