The steelwork still looks in remarkably good condition.
Has anything been announced as to the plan or this just the recovery phase? Not seen anything online.

The work is still in the recovery phase. A crane capable of lifting 1300 tons is on its way and is expected to arrive next week. It will lift the bridge elements and allow them to be inspected and see if they can be reused. Hopefully they can be reused, in which case it is just a matter of building a new pillar in the river and put the bridge back.
If not, they will have to build a completely new bridge.

They are now in the process of assembling the large crawler-crane, with the use of a smaller (but still large!) crane.

I normally forget until after it's dark!
They are working under flood lights just now!
Every now and then. It's interesting to see what's happening.

Large crawler crane appears to be assembled, staff in buckets off the smaller crane are now being lowered onto the bridge and I assume preparing it for lift.
We will find out soon how much of a repair is needed! Although I think my chances of travelling on the line mid march are getting slimmer.

I think that very much depends on the state the bridge is in.
or the work needed to rebuild a (torrent-proof) central pier once they have got the collaped bridge out of the way...
It seems like the large crane has moved, so I'm guessing they will lift the bridge next week.
True, but building a new bridge pillar in a couple of months should not be impossible. Even if it is winter.

It looks like they're not wasting any time and we might see the first lift today or tomorrow.
maybe not so surprising, as they can't do anything else until the old spans are recovered, and the more that they do before winter really sets in the better.

They seem to be leaving it hanging overnight, although I doubt that it's not propped in some way Certainly a long day for them!
CORRECTION, just checked and they seem to be lowering it before finishing for the day. Be interesting to see how the next few days go.
Interestingly the track had been removed from the 1st span prior to lifting but the track is still in place on the second span.

Maybe they can reduce the radius by repositioning the crane thus increasing the lift capacity.

I suspect it won't be today they lift the other span. They spent a couple of days preparing the other span and don't appear to have yet done that for the other. Looks like tracks need disconnecting and they need to spend time reattaching lifting points. Which seemed to take them a full day on last span.
Happy to be proved wrong.
You're probably correct. It looks like they're removing the counterweights from the crane.

On brighter news, I would say the span that has come out looks in good condition. No major damage although obviously not visible in detail.
It looks in good condition, but I'm nowhere near qualified to have an opinion on that.

I'm marginally qualified... But metallic bridges are very much not my area of expertise.
I see the yellow smaller telescopic crane has now been extended with trusses to enable baskets with personnel to start preparing the second span for lifting.
Possible we may see a lift tommorow.
As a civil engineer I am finding this fascinating to watch!

I hope you are right, if the spans can be reused it would save a lot of time and money.

I would have thought that they would have had divers and cameras down to examine the spans to see if they were reusable. If they weren‘t, would they have taken so much care when removing them? If they are only fit for scrap, why not just use explosives to reduce them to smaller portions, rather than getting a giant crane from Denmark, which would then have to sit around until the new spans are ready for installation?
