Apologies if this has already been noted:-

In order to raise money for the Railway Children’s Charity and to support one of the preserved railways on its network, East Midlands Trains will be running a special High Speed Train service from St Pancras International to Dereham in Norfolk on Saturday 14 May.

Tickets, which are priced at just £47.50 return, are still available at through the UK Railtours website. The train will depart from St Pancras at 07.42 and will call at Luton Airport Parkway, Kettering and Leicester. It will then run via Peterborough through to Wymondham, where it will proceed down the Mid Norfolk Railway line through Wymondham Abbey and Thuxton to Dereham.

To further support the work of the Mid Norfolk Railway, once at Wymondham, the HST will become part of the special ‘Drags and Rescues’ weekend, with preserved diesel locomotives dragging the train through to Dereham and back to Wymondham. This is the first time an HST has been ‘dragged’ by a Class 50 since the early 1990’s and will mark a significant event for many rail enthusiasts.

Regards

Les

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the hst will be dragged now as our 50 is still under repair at the present time also I believe EMT have asked for the hst to run under its own power due to the time spent coupling up to a loco.

All the best.

EMT seem to be very proactive with regard to heritage raillways.

They have taken a strong interest in Peak Rail's extension into Matlock and a delegation of their top brass attended the opening day of the Duffield extension of the Ecclesbourne Valley Line

Was speaking to one of the organisers at our end last week and he was still hopeful of a drag of some sort on at least one of the runs. He had arranged a fitter to fit the drawbar anyway. I was quite relieved that i wasn't going to be lumbered with doing that!

Me too.
Although i'm still DM'ing for a while, as it's a charity run and we're all donating our days wages to "The Railway Children" ASLEF don't have any issues with me remaining as one of the Drivers, much to my relief!

As the idiot who came up with the idea to do this in the first place, and also as Chief Technician to 50019, I think I should register (done obviously) and correct some of the misinformation I've been alerted to.

First, there is nothing being repaired on 19 that will prevent it working during the gala, and with the HST. There are things being monitored that MAY be altered / tweaked / swapped due to one reason or another, but essentially the loco is available for traffic for the MNR as it has been on a regular basis.

Second, EMT have at no time made any requests as to what the HST does whilst on the MNR, other than it meet its scheduled time slot at Wymondham on the return leg to London. To that end, the days events have been scheduled around the HST visit. This has changed several times over the past few months, mainly due to the finalised timings from Network Rail. At no time has the chief aim of 'dragging' the HST with a locomotive as part of the gala been dismissed as not possible.

If anyone has concerns or information on 19 that I am not privvy to and wishes to discuss this with me, I shall be at Dereham on a regular basis leading up to the event. If I am not around at the time, please leave a message with someone to post in the Directors pigeon holes and I'll pick it up as soon as I can.

I bow to your superior knowledge, the things i heard (about our 50) are from Trevor when i was on track last and (about the hst) from a driver of EMT on the way home.

Obviously both pieces of information were incorrect so i do apologise for posting incorrect information.

He had arranged a fitter to fit the drawbar anyway. I was quite relieved that i wasn't going to be lumbered with doing that!

It isnt actualy that hard to couple a hst to a loco with the drawbar i have done it once (yes i did mess it up ).

All the best.

Latest news as it comes available:

86101 WILL be appearing at the event as planned, and in addition to this 73109 will also joining in the fun.

On the downside, it has not been possible to do the required work on 31235, so 37219 will deputise.

With the addition of 73109 and 31/37 swap, there will be some alterations to the loco roster, these will be put up on the website as soon as possible (http://www.mnr.org.uk/events/rescue/)

Huge thanks to Glenn Edwards at Electric Traction, John Buxton (73109), and the various people within GBRf for all their assistance in supporting this event.

Is anyone else here doing this tour tomorrow?

It's a shame it doesn't pick up at Peterborough as that would be very useful! (Or does it? Apprently TRUST shows: 45106 PETERBORO 10U24 10S25 0 151 )

Anyone got timings for the East Anglia legs? Looks as though it could be in Wymondham at about 12 noon?

Travelled on this special and have to say it was a superb day out. The staff (all working for nothing) were very enthusiastic and welcoming - the train well presented and patronised and the trip and event at the Mid Norfolk were just fantastic. I gather some £24000 was raised for the Railway Children charity from the trip and the whole day was marked by positive and appreciative comments and actions. If only all specials were like this. Well done East Midlands Trains, Mid Norfolk Railway, Network Rail (for doing route clearance without cost), UK Railtours and all the other sponsors and helpers. Congratulations also to 125 Group for using this as their platform to announce Project Miller - the return of the Prototype HST Power Car.

Thank you so much, that is very much appreciated. I'm glad you had a great time.
It was a long day, but it was also one of the best days at work i've had in a long, long time. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

Thank you for the positive feedback, I think all the staff found it a pleasure to work on board, serving some very appreciative passengers. I also worked the train and their was a fantastic atmosphere.........may I thank all those that travelled and raised money for the Railway Children.
