Firstly what’s the speed limit through Tamworth for class 390s and secondly what’s the maximum tilt for a 390?

Like most of the WCML the speeds are 110PS/125EPS through Tamworth, on both fast and slow lines as far as Rugeley/Armitage (TV4).
390s tilt at 8 degrees I think (Voyagers 6 degrees).
Some continental versions of the Pendolino can do 9 degrees I think, on the wider gauge.
Speeds are lower Colwich-Stafford and through Atherstone.

Ever since the introduction of both fleets, I've noticed the tilt on the Voyagers to be less noticeable than on the Pendos, this would explain why.

It's also why the Super Voyagers have a lower EPS limit on some stretches than the Pendolinos.

8 seems to be the usual maximum.

The APT-P was 9 originally, that cancelled out the curving effects almost completely. They found that caused motion sickness in some people, so reduced it to 8 degrees allowing a small amount of the curving force to be felt.

Funnily enough, similar happened with the Italians - the prototype ETR 401 Pendolino tilted at up to 10 degrees, but this was reduced to 8 on the ETR 450 production series, again for passenger comfort.

And the tilting was very smooth, so one could see tilting motions - suddenly one side you can’t see the ground and the other side you can’t see the sky - without feeling it, confusing the brain and causing nausea. The Pendolino deliberately tilts with a jolt so you feel it happen. I absolutely love it
