I understand that "Delay Repay" is a clever turn of phrase, but that delay compensation isn't strictly a repayment, rather it's compensation for being delayed. However, for convenience of fixing an amount, it's calculated based on a percentage of the price paid for the ticket on that journey.

So does that mean that there's never any compensation due for a heavily delayed journey if the ticket used had no specific price attached to it? In my case it was a complimentary one received as recompense for previous bad service from the same TOC. A theoretically 3h55m journey (including a 50+-minute wait at an interchange) turned into a 4h58m journey on account of a missing train and late running of the next one. Should I - based on the experience of the experts here - expect to get any compensation for the 63-minute delay?

Thanks.

Northern give delay repay for their complimentary tickets through more complimentary tickets. The number awarded is to the same standard as if it was a non-complementary ticket. I'd hope that was similar across other TOCs if they issue complimentary tickets, however I cannot say.

Under Delay Repay you are not entitled to anything financially. If you were to go via Customer Services they would likely issue you another complimentary ticket however.

Indeed. I got another complimentary ticket from Northern a few years ago, whilst using a Northern complimentary on a day trip from Hellifield to/from Carlisle, this after a preceding steam hauled excursion train had temporarily failed at Appleby, having run low on water.

Is the mystery TOC Northern?

If so, I know Northern's policy is you can claim another voucher, but not cash.

Sorry not to have been more explicit - it's LNWR/WMR. Do they take the same line as various of you say that Northern does?

Ah, West Midlands Trains.

Probably, but I would certainly put in a claim on that basis. No doubt someone else can confirm.
