Has anyone seen sightings of 508130 yesterday or today please?
It doesn't appear to have been working the past two days.

508130 is on the Southport line today, working with 508137 on the 0942 Southport - Hunts X. It was on the same route on Thursday, too.

Only a few days left in service for these two.

According to someone on MerseyRailways 2.0, 508130 has now been stood down and will leave Kirkdale for Birkenhead North depot, tonight.

Another 507 is deputising on the Kirkby line today in the form of 507023, and this time it has stayed out. It is doing the .35 departures from Liverpool Central for anyone interested.

This follows two days in a row with a 507/8 substitute on the Ormskirk line: 508108 on Tuesday and I think 507002 yesterday. Always a pleasure.

This ideally needs to stop now. Major shortage of 507/508 for peaks. The 777s need to get there now as a case of do or die otherwise the next few months will be unprecedented in terms of disruption

Easy solution, extend the lease on some 50x sets and get Stadler to fund the costs. They're responsible for this mess after all

Withdrawal of 508s should have been halted until things settle down. I find Tuesday's withdrawal of 508117/130 unpalatable when conditions on the Southport line are as dangerous as they are at present. Significant numbers of people are being left behind, unable to board, and those who are 'fortunate' enough to get on these short-formed sets are subjected to extreme overcrowding.

It should be noted that the current capacity provided by Merseyrail at peak times is far less than what the much-maligned MTL managed in the late 1990s, widely considered the network's lowest ebb.

I hope the local press are holding Merseyrail / Stadler / Metro mayor to account over this. Sounds bad.

To be honest I don’t blame Stadler for this. Merseyrail chose not pay for any overhauls after a certain time and this is the result. Worth bearing in mind the compulsory withdrawals of 508s by December will no doubt have affected this decision.

What is a concern however is the 777s don’t seem to be matching entry into service (or the country for that matter) at the same rate the others are leaving. Personally as a Southport commuter I’m dreading this winter it’s going to be grim unless the 777s somehow enter service in larger numbers

How can you not blame Stadler. They built the trains and they fix the trains.. The 508 are life expired. No overhaul can change that. This is another Rotherham pipe dream that has failed, his buses are the same and we are the ones suffering. Financially too.

So Sims can fit these 2 units through the crusher but weren't the 2 that are currently at Crewe held there pending space at Sims?

Think it was also because the line between Shrewsbury and Newport has been closed for a few weeks and only just fully reopened

Just a short time on the rails today 1154-1526 from Liverpool South Parkway visiting New Brighton and Maghull North. During that time I saw nine 508s in service, 131 141 114 139 104 108 124 120 and 103. Most were on the West Kirby/New Brighton lines but 120 was on the Kirkby line and 131 and 103 were on Southport-Hunts Cross.
I wonder if 120 will be the last ever on the Kirkby line as Headbolt Lane opens on Thursday?

So does this take us down to a fleet of 35 and are they halting withdrawals for now or not, bearing in mind that they must restart soon enough for the 508s to be gone by December?
