I heard a rumour that Paignton to lose its Platform 1?

What do you mean by 'lose'? Have you heard that it's to be demolished and the track taken up?

Can't see how this can be possible as particularly in Summer there are trains timetabled to arrive in 1 when there's a train sat or about to depart in 2 so they'd have to rework the timetable in some cases to take into account trains being held outside the station.

What they really need is a crossover to allow trains to depart from Platform 1.

I suppose it could potentially create more room for HST services, but I'm no expert on these things. It could be something to do with the land contracts. Maybe some other company wants to build something.

I know that the P&DSR want to completely rebuild their section of Paignton Station, but I don't think that this will touch any of the main station, including the adjacent platform 1.

Doesn't sound that odd to me as it works just fine at Hull where there are platforms 2-7 but no platform 1.

Don't know which platform end you heard this on. They can't take P1 out, it would totally reduce station capacity. Many services go into one then reverse via goodrington once another service has left platform 2.

No, and next time please don't post a topic like this with a 'factual' title! At the very least you should have a question mark! I have changed it to be more appropriate. I suggest next time someone tells you a silly rumour you do a little research before posting it, or perhaps ask a (more knowledgeable) friend first? Had I seen the topic when it was first posted I would have simply deleted it.
