Any good news over the last few months in UK rail industry - intentionally looking at positives rather than what could have been? It is easy to say more should be done but it'd be a nice change from current news to be grateful for what is being accomplished.

The following projects are all ongoing.
- TRU
- South Wales Metro
- EWR
- New trains for Tyne & Wear
- Elizabeth Line popularity
- ECML digitisation

Rugby World Cup: only Scotland has lost a match so far out of all four home nations

Electrification Glasgow-Barrhead largely done, should enter service by end of year

Tracklaying completed for Levenmouth branch, should reopen next year, with foundations in place for future electrification

Big works to renew the former opening spans of Barmouth viaduct, securing its future for decades to come

New station at White Rose Centre to replace Cottingley....plus the re-siting of Morley station - which really comes under the aegis of the TransPennine Route Upgrade.

Construction about to start (we hope!) on the new station at Elland.

Is that it? Three cheers for Pollyanna. The Life of my eponymous character too! It could be worse ... as you say, easy to say.

Not quite infrastructure related but I think its been a great few months for trainspotting (for me anyways). Been lots of interesting stuff to see, such as the 458 widnes drags.

In Modern Railways it says that Daft have authorised development work for putting up the wires on the Poplar lines from Acton Yard to Acton Wells Junction. As it is for the benefit of planned passenger diversions it will probably go ahead; if it was for freight the answer would be 'go squat on a cactus'. (I'm a retired freighty, BTW.)

Cornwall is now a nation, with an international rugby team?

I must have missed that.
Presumably referring to Ireland, which in rugby union has a joint team shared with Northern Ireland.

Classing that team as a "home nation" is not a can of worms I'm prepared to open however!

Do you mind if I ask what passenger diversions will go that way?

Yes there are projects underway if there delivered in full then they may deliver benefit. However, which one was/is on budget, and delivered or on course to be delivered on time ?

Given this must be the shortest infill electrification on the network should only need a couple of months for it to then gather dust for years. It’s a no regrets scheme which cant be more than a few million.

Not sure where the positive is here, if referring to the TW Metro: The new trains have been delayed by an additional few months into 2024, and as a result, with fewer and fewer ageing existing units available, Nexus have warned that this winter is likely to be even worse than regular users have come to expect.

Oh I see, so it’s not really diversions but more reversing facilities. Thanks very much!
