LNER Diverts Azuma's looped for Pendolino's

I happened to notice that the 0752 Aberdeen to Kings Cross and the 0755 Inverness to Kings Cross are scheduled to be looped at Abington for Pendolino's during the weekend diverts..
I checked the 0752 for last Saturday and sure enough it got looped, I may try and have a ride but the diverts are finishing soon plus there is one Saturday when Industrial action is due to take place.

The reality of diversionary paths, they’re never optimal. Carlisle isn’t exactly awash with through platforms so no doubt this makes the most sense for the temporary timetables.

Plus 80x are slower - by a not inconsiderable amount - than Pendolini over the EPS sections of the WCML.

Marrying a path through the heavily congested section between Edinburgh & Haymarket East Jn and along the WCML with one along the Tyne Valley line as well as the standard ECML path isn't easy either.

With Carlisle only having 3 through platforms, and the normal WCML timetable still running, that therefore sometimes necessitates sub-optimal timetabling such as this.

Isn't the south to east route through Carstairs still single for a stretch, although now at higher speed?
That might impose some regulation, while keeping the normal Avanti/TPE schedule.

RTT has the two trains mentioned going back through Haymarket, but of course that doesn’t mean they all do.

It varies, some years I've done it we've gone round the Sub, other years through Haymarket. I've always assumed it depends on pathing as it does take a bit longer going via the Sub.

It varies depending on the individual path, but yes, that does happen sometimes. Of course it requires the driver to sign the Edinburgh Sub.
