The problem wasn't about fulfilment method but the sales channel. As I recall, TVM is a sales channel in it's own right so they simply had to disable that sales channel for Daysave.
Indeed, I got distracted with the explanation and forgot to actually make my point

Considering the above chat about restricting this ticket to on line sales only can you still buy on the day at the noted tourist information centres?

I was told the other day by someone who attempted to buy one at Eastbourne Tourist Office that they no longer sell them.

There is no physical restriction preventing DaySaves being sold on the day in-person at a TO or online via the Southern website (in fact, I have managed to trick it into issuing me one for the next day before and it printed fine).

How did you trick it? Or is it a case of if you explain they will shut the trick down?

As for buying them in a TO on the day. If the TO no longer sells them, that will be a restriction.

They are not supposed to be sold at ticket offices, and it is simple for Southern to prevent it happening.

Probably this. :)

Just have to find a TO that doesn't know the issuing rules and issues the old Rover version like we had a few weeks ago!

But TO surely refers to tourist offices as that was what was mentioned in the preceding post. I accept TO could mean ticket office but I took it to mean tourist office.

Ignoring the defunct ranger being issued, it does appear to be restricted so that a compliant ticket office machine will not issue it

(edited following the above post - if TO means Tourist office, then maybe they are still allowed, I don't have any idea what license/channel they're under)

it is simple for Southern to prevent it happening.
GTR seem to struggle maintaining the data in that system at times!

Compliant being the operative word - I’ve used several systems over the years and honestly, passengers pay less for certain journeys at some ticket offices than others because the computers allow the sale of tickets they aren’t meant to!

But they're accredited, nothing non-compliant would ever possibly get out! :D

If the computer says yes to selling the ticket, would you sell it even if it isn't compliant? Would you even know it wasn't compliant when selling it?

If you don’t know what the ticket is you should be very wary of selling it as you are unable to advise the customer of any relevant restrictions. And if you know what it is and that it should not be sold you should not sell it.

I think that's a good point if you're offering that ticket to a customer, but I'm less inclined to say that should always be the case if the customer approaches you and specifically asks for a particular ranger/rover.

You can't expect every member of staff to know the validity of every ranger/rover in the country.

After reading the most recent page and a half i have never seen this ticket being sold on the day before - the catch of this ticket is the fact that you had to wait a few days before using it. I reckon once the London Zones 1-6 travelcard has gone it would be nice if Southern had it as a buy on the day option on the ticket machines as its a great ticket!

When it comes to the ticket being recognized by Southern members of Staff, very few of them are aware of its existence - most times i get checked for the ticket i end up explaining to them what the Daysave does. However, after its explanation most ticket collectors really like the idea of what this ticket can do, and its a real shame that the Southern Daysave and other rover tickets are poorly advertised.

It's funny because I've always had the opposite experience! I think my luck has always had some more experienced staff en-route as I've been told that they "haven't seen one of those in many years" before!
