There are certainly some diagram changes on the Reading line from today (2 x 455 out all day for example). I expect the 1750 Waterloo to Reading and return is no longer 2 x 707.

Must be a shortage of 458s which is worrying as more and more are leaving to be refurbished, with the 701s nowhere to be seen still

The diagram the 455s are on is/was one of the three 458 diagrams on the Reading line. I assume that a pair of 458s has been shifted elsewhere because that's where capacity is most desperate.

Last minute set swap with a 458 earlier going onto the sheppy line with the sheppy 455 going onto the Reading. Both were originally booked as 458s

Are there that many trains on midweek peak hour workings where can lose third of the capacity.

You can't fix a gap in the fleet, by creating a hole elsewhere in the fleet. There are certain trains which operate as 10 or 12car and they are close to leaving people behind.

Pretty much what they did when they thought all the 707s were going last time. The 2G/F/M services had a few 450 diagrams on them, but I believe there are more 455s available this time around

They ought to be pausing the 458/4 programme until the 701s come in.

This is entirely self-inflicted by SWR, with the connivance of DfT.

Indeed its not as if SE need the stock currently all they will do is stand down some more 465/66 which are cheaper to lease

Yea, you'd think that the DfT would have blocked the transfer of the remaining 707s. Until of course you realise that this is the same DfT that is content to force rolling stock shortages on GWR and Cross Country.

The transfer happened something like 18-24 months ago. It was agreed by DfT then.

SE have been leasing them, but renting them back to SWR. I suspect SWR had max timescale for retaining them and simply ran out of time.

But given that TOC managers can't sneeze without first getting permission from the DfT I'm sure it would have been well within the DfT's powers to block the final move.

After all, the DfT runs the railways these days, not railway management.

As I said I think it's more simply that the DfT really doesn't care about causing capacity problems.

My last working on 707s was on 28th and 29th August.I said on my traction exam there was no point doing anything on 707s as I'm very close to my last working that's if I haven't worked them for the last time anyway.So how many left now?

My understanding is that the Waterloo to Grove Park via the flyover is driven by a DI or DM from LSER. They've kept the competency up no doubt as we've had a fair few visits of LSER 707s at the Park for the wheel lathe which come via Waterloo.
