Has the guard panels been fitted yet to the 196 units? I haven't kept track on them.Yes from a passenger point of view the 172 may seem worse these days, but operationally they're still far more friendly for train crew!

Not on the 4 cars yet no, 2 cars aren't planned to get any outside the cabs.Has the guard panels been fitted yet to the 196 units? I haven't kept track on them.
There are 4 trains running to Hereford, and half of them are 196s. Those are the diagrams containing the 10:39 and 11:39 out of Hereford, and they cycle every 4 hours.Does anyone know which weekday services on the Herefords are likely to produce a 196? Or is it very much down to the random unit generator?
One is fitted but yet to be tested/signed offNot on the 4 cars yet no, 2 cars aren't planned to get any outside the cabs.
Oh that's good, thanks for the updateOne is fitted but yet to be tested/signed off
.Which in itself is rediculous (IMO), the more flexibility the guard has to operate the train, the more productive they can be. As the 323s show! Not on the 4 cars yet no, 2 cars aren't planned to get any outside the cabs.

I don’t know where he heard it, but I’ll add that the 196s have placeholders for the guard panels, and I do not recall seeing any on the 196/0s (and I’ve been on a tonne of 196s)Where did you hear that, out of curisoity?

Ah, ok.I am aware, I sign them. I have seen no confirmation either way about whether only 4 car units are getting panels or not, which is where my curiosity at the statement has come from.
I know a few train crew, locally on the Nuneaton to Coventry line, however concerning two car 196s, its possible x6 two car 196, will not be getting them, due to the onwards plans for them being operationally based for the Sub lease to East and West rail at Bletchley.I am aware, I sign them. Just from a WMR driver I've talked to previously, the 4 cars only need fitting due to University heading into Birmingham for sighting.I am aware, I sign them. Which is still most likely expected to be the case. However rest of fleet remains unclear they was meant to have been, after the previous issues in the past ie strikes over future possible Dco working. But maybe wmr are slow in fitting them, or possibly trying to avoid so, should in future years it comes back on agenda again. Either way looking like at least x6 196, two car not fitted, due to sub lease to East and west rail due to it being Doo working.
They were covering for 196109 which failed at Shrewsbury at 07:34 that day, the units scheduled services were cancelled up until 09:13 at Wolverhampton where the duo headed to Shrewsbury then continued 196109's scheduled workings (where you saw it) then later that evening 196007 and 196001 swapped with 196002 and 196011. That diagram finishes at Shrewsbury so unless they have already been swapped out 196002 and 196011 have been working the same diagram today.Today's 2J22 14:15 off Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury was 196007 and 196001. Not often you see 196/0 on the Salop line.
If only. 2 and 11 are my last pair of 2-cars so I went out for them this afternoon but they had been swapped to 102.They were covering for 196109 which failed at Shrewsbury at 07:34 that day, the units scheduled services were cancelled up until 09:13 at Wolverhampton where the duo headed to Shrewsbury then continued 196109's scheduled workings (where you saw it) then later that evening 196007 and 196001 swapped with 196002 and 196011. Is 196/0 really noteworthy on the salop?Today's 2J22 14:15 off Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury was 196007 and 196001. Not often you see 196/0 on the Salop line.

2J24 15:15 off Wolverhampton to Telford Central today was 196002 and 196011 today. More 2 car 196s on the Salop. Twice in two days I've had a pair of 196/0s.
They ran today on the 1156 off BHM, as a sub for a failed unit. That working would put them in the sidings at Shrewsbury tonightIf only. 2 and 11 are my last pair of 2-cars so I went out for them this afternoon but they had been swapped to 102.
I would guess that it's simply easier to keep as a 172 diagram on the off chance the crew assigned to it don't actually sign 196s.This probably isn’t the ideal thread but creating a new one feels a bit much.
Excuse my ignorance, but, during the overtime ban, one diagram is taken out of the BHM-HFD service. This is one operated by a 196. Is there any reason why the units freed up from the cancellation of this diagram cannot be reallocated to one of the 172 diagrams on the route to provide extra capacity?
If it helps I had the duo yesterday on 2J20, 1756 Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury. If only. 2 and 11 are my last pair of 2-cars so I went out for them this afternoon but they had been swapped to 102.
All of them have been delivered so isn't a lack of parts to finish them. 114 was only delivered a few months ago so probably still under testing.By my reckoning 196105, 112, 113, 114 are still to work.
Seem to be taking an age so is this a 'money saving' reason, or lack of parts to finish them reason ?
Still got a couple of drivers that don’t sign 196’s. As regards the diagram being cancelled. It’s something the company has decided to do everytime there is action short of a strike by the looks of it. Guess someone will have to ask them why.I would guess that it's simply easier to keep as a 172 diagram on the off chance the crew assigned to it don't actually sign 196s.
Presumably it's Worcester depot staff so they should all sign all traction, but when I was on that route there were a lot of drivers that didn't, for instance, sign some of the older traction so diagrams were designed for mostly single traction.
So it's just about minising risk then really. We're fortune at our depot that there's nothing that can be cut in that way, I imagine my old depot isn't so lucky either.Still got a couple of drivers that don’t sign 196’s. Excellent. I believe just 196113 and 114 left now to enter service.196105 entered service tonight on the shrewsbury services.
