Someone in work mentioned this job but is this not strange that Blue Arrow are advertisning for a TE job on behalf of Scotrail rather than the company itself. I honestly thought agency workers were "entry level" jobs only and progress went from there but it's word for word a Scotrail job description with the £30k salary. If I wasn't with Scotrail already I would have went for it myself.

They probably get greater exposure by going through agencies. I've often seen NR signaller vacancies on agency sites that are not on Network Rails own careers site.

They may perhaps be using the agency just for the recruitment process, but successful applicants might be employed directly.

I believe Scotrail used to use agency staff for catering staff a while back, may of been the Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk High only. I thought all staff were in house now.

Think most Gateline at Central are agency with just a few new Scotrail recruits. I could be wrong but after 6 months if they get kept on they get a Scotrail contract and it's another 6 months before they can apply internally, so they are "stuck" at the gates for 12 months minimum.

Least they can get a Scotrail contract. Are gateline salaried or hourly?

Hourly. Contract is 35 hours, Sundays outside but have to do 2 as part of the 7 on 2 off 7 on 5 off. Believe agency get about the same hourly pay but don't get the book on fee for Sunday or RDW. I've been told that some gateline can earn around £40k per year but that is way too much O/T if you ask me.
