Hi I'd just like to know whether what the deal is with regards to the validity of this ticket as it seems to imply that you can only do one round trip despite the fact its called a Day Ranger.

Do you have go round in a circle to use it or could you say use it just between Shrewsbury and Swansea via Cardiff doing various Unlimited Hops between say Newport and Llanelli.

Ah excellent,Well must say that it is excellent value for money then. Always makes me somewhat suspicious though that there is a catch when something seems to offer so much for such a good price.

Anyway better not give ATW/ATOC any ideas for increasing the price  .

My bad, I've just been on the Arriva Train Wales website and found the following caveat:

At least one part of your journey must be made up or down the Heart of Wales Line (between Swansea and Shrewsbury via Llandrindod Wells)

Sorry for not noticing this before.

ATW stamp their tickets with headcode clippers don't they? Every time I use them I always get a blue date stamp with part of headcode on.

It is only supposed to be for a circular journey in either direction. I'm not sure how this could be or is enforced, but the advertising seems clear enought to me.

I'm not sure how the East Yorkshire Round Robin ticket works. Is that the same thing? It's also described as a circular tour.

well i've done an East Midlands Round Robin (EM Round Robin if you ever want to get it issued) which is similar to both and it just looked like a normal day ranger and no one ever question my route and whether i'd gone round in a circle. Although I did remain on a fairly circular route I did do Whitwell - Worksop twice and Sheffield - Worksop/Lincoln- Newark Northgate in both directions and there didn't seem to be any problems. Though it took long enough to do that at 9-10 hours.

Errr, Smethwick!
Just last weekend I used a Ffestiniog Round Robin from Birmingham New Street and noted that there was no indication whatever of which way round it needed to be used, or indeed any way of anyone en route telling which 'half' of the circle had been done (it not being clipped or stamped at any point, even though it was checked - four times - on National Rail services all day).

I also thought it a bit lax of the FR guard, as the ticket was checked on board after leaving Blaenau Ffestiniog but wasn't clipped or stamped at all to indicate that I had taken the single journey I was entitled to. That's not a cheap journey to be giving away free if someone (and no, I did NOT) decided to use it for a return trip.

Speaking of price increases had a bit of a shock last week when i found out the valley lines day ranger had been increased to £9.10 and you can no longer get a railcard discount

Shocking! I expect I am in for an unpleasant but similar shock when I come to renew my season ticket...
